I'm a server and these are my biggest customer 'icks'

Server sparks a heated debate after sharing her biggest customer ‘icks’ – including Sunday ‘church crowds’ and people who ask for STRAWS while she’s serving their drinks

A server has sparked a debate about restaurant behavior after detailing the types of customers who give her ‘the ick’ — from the rude ‘church crowd’ to the ‘plastic silverware brigade.’

Grace, who works in fine dining in Atlanta Georgia, shared her frustrations on TikTok on Tuesday after compiling a list of 19 things diners continuously do that drive her crazy.

The content creator, known as @gracefromthe6, used the app’s green-screen function to project her notes behind her as she went over her top gripes.

‘This is a list I’ve been working on for quite some time,’ she began. ‘After working a double shift on Father’s Day and getting severely undertipped, I have a lot of things I need to say.’

Grace’s first complaint was people ‘who ask questions without reading the menu.’

‘You read the menu to see you wanted the salmon,’ she noted. ‘Why are you asking me, “Does it come with sides?” when clearly right next to it says, “Served with broccoli and mashed potatoes.” Don’t p** me off.

She then called out the ‘plastic silverware brigade’ for requesting to-go utensils while dining in full-service restaurants.

‘Do y’all not understand you are using plastic silverware to eat off a plate that went through the same dishwasher as the silverware?’ she asked.

‘If anything, I feel like the silverware is cleaner than the plates because we have to run the silverware through twice, so do what you will with that information.’

Grace also had a few choice words for customers who ask for something every time she goes to the table instead of requesting everything they need at once.

‘I drop something off. I ask, “Do y’all need anything else?” You say, “Oh, yeah, can I get a side of A1?” Cool. I bring back the side of A1. “Oh, can I get a side of ketchup?” Okay, I go get the ketchup and bring it back,’ she said. ‘Don’t ask me for anything else.’

Grace went on to share her distaste for people who seat themselves. She noted that she doesn’t really run into this problem now that she works in fine dining.

dont be these customers 😭 #fyp #serverlife #servertiktok

Grace’s first complaint was people ‘who ask questions without reading the menu.’ She also railed against the rude ‘church crowd’ and the ‘plastic silverware brigade’

Some viewers could relate and empathized with Grace, while others thought the customers’ requests were warranted. A number of people also suggested she find another job

However, she recalled how customers would rudely sit down at a table after being told the restaurant was about to close.

The server then moved on to people who ask for straws while she is in the middle of serving drinks.

‘You see I have four drinks in my hand. I only set down two of them. I still have two drinks in my hand. “Can I have a straw?” B***h, can you wait for me to put everything down so I can give you a straw?’ she asked.

Grace concluded the video with a few thoughts on the ‘church crowd’ she has to deal with on Sundays — ‘the worst day to work in any restaurant.’

‘I know you just left church. You just praised the Lord, and now you are in here acting a fool, being rude, and you just tipped me $5 and acted like you gave me the key to the city,’ she griped.

The video has been viewed more than 15,000 times, but the response from commenters has been mixed.

A number of servers could empathize with Grace, saying they have the same exact struggles with their own customers.

‘Dealing with the public is hard. No one gets it until you do it,’ one person noted.

‘All of these!!!!’ someone else agreed. ‘I work at a Mexican place and the amount of people asking me if I have TACOS!!!!! Like c’mon man!’

‘Omg not asking for everything at once really grinds my gears,’ another added.

However, others thought some of the customers’ requests were warranted and felt she should find another job.

‘Sometimes y’all forget to give straws so yes I’m asking,’ one viewer hit back.

‘Nah I don’t care if y’all run the silverware through five times I’m going to still ask for plastic,’ someone else insisted.

Another added: ‘Wow. You really hate your job…’
