I’m a shopping expert – I save £160 a MONTH on my groceries and you can too | The Sun

GROCERY prices are going through the roof – but here's how shopping expert Holly Smith shaves up to £160 off her bill per month.

The cost of your weekly shop could jump by £464 because of rocketing inflation, according to latest figures from Kantar.

That’s on top of other spiralling costs such as energy, with millions of households set to be hit with a £830 bill hike in October when the price cap goes up again.

It means that households are doing everything they can to slash their outgoings and balance their budgets.

But you could save hundreds following Holly’s cashback tips.

She posts all of her deals tips on Instagram to help others save money.

Use money saving apps – £120

Holly uses shopping apps like Shopmium, CheckoutSmart, GreenJinn and ClickSnap to save hundreds on her grocery shop per year.

These sites work by promising to earn you money back on your shopping – they agree offers with retailers, and pass these on to customers.

You need to sign up to the apps – which are free to do so through Google Play or the App store.

Once you've got yourself an account, you can scroll through the deals listed on the site.

You can pick up items at big supermarkets like Tesco and Sainsbury's.

Simply go to the store, buy the product under offer, take a picture of your receipt, upload it to the app and you can get your cash back.

Download all the apps, and you may find you can get the same deal multiple times, Holly said.

“If you use the apps combined you can get around £20 to £30 of groceries for free each week –  I can save up to £120 on a good month,” Holly said.

Go on cashback sites – £40 a month

Cashback websites can be a quick and easy way to get money back on your shopping – Holly said she saves around £40 a month this way.

“I love cashback sites – I use both TopCashback and Quidco to earn around £500 in cash back each year,” she said.

“I always renew my car, home and pet insurance using cashback sites as the commission can be as much as £150 per switch.”

You’ll need to sign up for an account to use these sites – then log in and check whether the retailer you are planning to buy from is offering cashback.

Click through from the link on the cashback website rather than going directly to the retailer's site – then fill your basket as normal.

Shops pay a percentage that can be anything between one and 40% of what you spend, or a fixed amount.

Top deals The Sun has spotted include £10 cashback on an Asda grocery delivery if you spend £48 or more.

How else to save on your shopping

Here's other ways you can slash the cost of your grocery bill.

Healthy Start vouchers

Parents and mums-to-be can make the most of the Healthy Start scheme.

You can claim money to put towards milk, vegetables and other fridge essentials.

The cut off date is March 10, so that leaves families with just weeks to go until they face missing out on the help worth £442

You have to be receiving Child Tax Credit, Income Support, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Pension Credit, or Universal Credit to be eligible though.

Hunt for yellow sticker food

When food is nearing its use by date, supermarkets often slash prices to shift stock.

These discounted goods usually have yellow stickers on them so you can spot them easily – and know what you're saving.

Sometimes you can get up to 75% off – a big saving on your weekly shop.

Use food waste apps

Families can waste hundreds of pounds per year chucking away food that has been left too long in the fridge.

But there's apps you can use to avoid this happening.

For example, Kitche keeps track of the food you bought at the supermarket and lets you know when items are getting close to their sell by date – which stops you wasting cash on food.

While the Too Good To Go means you can buy food and treats from shops including Morrisons, Greggs and Pret at a big discount.

That's because this excess food was only going to be thrown away by big shops.
