I've been a mess ever since my ex-girlfriend falsely accused me of rape | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: SINCE my ex-girlfriend falsely accused me of rape, my head has been a mess.

The police arrested me, but have since dropped all the charges because there’s no evidence.

I’m 34 and my ex is 29. We were together for a year.

She was quite abusive during our relationship, especially when she didn’t get her own way. I decided to break up with her because I wasn’t happy.

When I told her, she said I’d regret it.

A couple of days later, the police turned up on my doorstep to accuse me of rape. It was a total lie.

After that, I had months of stress, waiting to see if it would go to court.

Although I’ve been cleared, I don’t feel I can ever trust another woman again. Some people believe there’s no smoke without fire.

DEIDRE SAYS: Being falsely accused must have been distressing. But you were very unlucky. It’s unusual for a woman to do this.

You need support to get over what’s happened, and to deal with those who don’t believe you.

Please contact an organisation called FASO (false-allegations.org.uk, 03335 779377).

You can also talk to them about pressing charges against her, although you may feel you want to put this behind you and move on.
