The Princess of Wales, 41, is taking her new role as Colonel of the 1st Battalion Irish Guards to heart as she traded her tiara for camouflage, joining soldiers for a series of battlefield training exercises on a wintry day in Wiltshire, England today.

“A snowy morning with the @irishguards on Salisbury Plain!” the princess wrote on Instagram, sharing a series of photos of herself wearing a camo army jacket, olive-colored skinny jeans and a green knit beanie as she met with soldiers.

She added her trusty Berghaus Supalite II GTX hiking boots ($145) and a pair of green slouchy socks pulled up over her pants, wearing black gloves in some of the photos to protect against the winter chill.

“The work of the Irish Guards is as wide-ranging as it is exemplary, from training park rangers on counter-poaching in East Africa to de-mining training for Ukrainian Armed Forces,” she continued. “Fantastic to be with ‘The Micks’ today seeing their hard work (whatever the weather!).”

The hands-on princess — who wore her hair tied back in a French braid — took part in events such as battlefield casualty drills, learning how the army provides care to injured soldiers.

Royal watchers shared their excitement about the mom of three’s camo moment on the post, like one who commented, “She looks good in EVERYTHING, such an inspiration especially on this International Women’s Day!! Could all learn a little something from her!!”

“I love how sporty she is and can a rock an evening gown like a boss,” another fan wrote.

This isn’t the first time the royal has sported army fatigues; last June, she shared photos on Instagram in honor of Armed Forces Day, posting snaps of herself in a camo jacket as she worked on military equipment and wore a helmet and headset while sitting in a tank.

Her visit comes on the six month anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death, and with the late monarch having served in the military herself during World War II, we have a feeling she’d approve of the princess’ outing.
