Weight loss wasn’t Kim Kardashian’s only concern leading up to the 2022 Met Gala.
Normally a plant-based eater, the “Kardashians” star told Allure in her August 2022 cover story that she consumed meat as part of her strict diet to lose 15 pounds to fit in Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress, and it caused her to have a psoriasis flare.
“Psoriasis broke out over my body and I got psoriatic arthritis so I couldn’t really move my hands,” she told the glossy.
“It was really painful, and I had to go to a rheumatologist who put me on a steroid. I was freaking out. I cut out the meat again, and it’s calmed down.”
Kardashian, 41, has been candid about her struggle with psoriasis, which is a skin disease that causes a rash with itchy, scaly patches, most commonly on the knees, elbows, trunk and scalp, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Although she used homeopathic remedies for years, the Skkn founder finally turned to medicine in 2018 when psoriasis overtook her body.
“I’ve never seen it like this before and I can’t even cover it at this point,” she told her Twitter followers.
That same year, she also shared a selfie with fans that revealed the skin disease had spread to her face.
In 2019, the Hulu star detailed her battle with the arthritis side of the autoimmune disease to her sister Kourtney Kardashian’s website, Poosh, sharing that it first presented itself when she was unable to pick up her phone or use a toothbrush.
At first she assumed that she’d simply overdone a workout, but as the day wore on, “I got a bit more movement in my hands, but they really hurt from the inside — I felt it in my bones.”
“I immediately started to cry and felt so lost,” Kardashian added.
