WITH the Champions League set to elude these two sides, how badly do they want to play in the ‘lesser’ European competitions? We might find out at Anfield on Sunday…

Liverpool vs Tottenham betting preview

With a big gap to the top four having now opened, whether either of these sides really believe they can play in next season’s Champions League is very much open to question.

And if they aren’t going to make the top four, it’s fair to ask how motivated they are to finish between fifth and seventh – the positions which now look certain to provide England’s Europa League and Europa Conference League sides for 2023/24.

While there will be financial benefits for both clubs, playing in those competitions certainly has the potential to undermine next season’s domestic challenge when both will aim to do better than this term – something Chelsea will be expecting to do, as well.

While bearing that in mind, it’s hard to approach the game from a betting perspective thinking there won’t be anything but victory in players’ minds.

Spurs looked more determined than for some time during Thursday’s 2-2 home draw with Manchester United where new interim boss Ryan Mason duly brought a more positive approach to proceedings and was rewarded with a fightback from two goals down.

The Tottenham fans were highly critical of Antonio Conte and Cristian Stellini’s style of football, although in pure goal terms there was entertainment to be had – Spurs’ last seven games have now seen both teams score, a stat worth noting by punters.

It seems unlikely Mason will now head to Anfield looking to shut up shop against a team who have disappointed this season, although mainly on their travels.

On their own turf, Liverpool have lost only once, winning 10 of 15. They’ve scored 39 times in those games – only Arsenal and Man City have better home goal tallies.

They doesn’t bode well for a Spurs team who have shipped 31 goals on the road – the worst record of the teams in the top half of the table.

An open game beckons.

Liverpool vs Tottenham best bets

Liverpool to win and both teams to score

Neither side has been particularly convincing at the back of late but their goal threat at the other end is undeniable.

The Reds’ remain very reliable at home – 10 wins and one defeat at Anfield – but Spurs haven’t been too brittle away, winning only five of 16.

They’ve already lost at Arsenal, Man City and Newcastle via this method, while Liverpool have won their last three whilst conceding.

In short, a good way to boost Liverpool’s price.

Pedro Porro and Andy Robertson both 2+ tackles

In the props markets, a look at the tackles data suggests this is a good bet.

Finally getting a proper run in the side, Porro has made 2+ tackles in his last four games and five of his last six. Here, he’ll likely face Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz across the 90 minutes and both are tricky customers who will run at the Spaniard.

Robertson has landed the bet in his last five and seven of his last nine. He’s set to be in direct opposition to either the lively Dejan Kulusevski or Richarlison, a player with whom he’s had plenty of run-ins during Merseyside derbies in the past.

Back Porro & Robertson both 2+ tackles at 2/1 at bet365

Mo Salah and Harry Kane both to score

Related to the above BTTS bet but it’s glaringly obvious that if both teams do find the net, these two have a great chance of getting on the scoresheet.

Salah has eight goals in his last eight league starts and will be bidding to score at Anfield for the seventh match running. He also has a decent record against Spurs, scoring seven times against them.

Kane has eight in 15 league appearances v Liverpool and even in a team which has stuttered a lot in recent times, is scoring for fun.

He may not have netted in midweek but confidence remains high (and exquisite assist v Man Utd will have helped) and he can be back among the goals here.
