Maya Jama’s dating history from Stormzy romance to split from fiancé

She recently made her Love Island debut on the 2023 winter edition, and fans have already said Maya Jama was "made" for the hosting gig.

The 28 year old is the new presenter of the ITV2 dating series, following Laura Whitmore's decision to quit after the 2022 series.

Ahead of the start of the show on 16 January, Maya opened up about her own love life, revealing she's newly single.

"I'm really, really single right now. Newly single. It's only been a month, but it's nice," she told The Sunday Times, but didn't disclose who her former flame was.

Let's take a look back through Maya's colourful dating history…

Ben Simmons

Maya's most recent pubic relationship was with Australian basketball ace Ben Simmons.

Maya and Ben, 26, started dating in May 2021, and in July they went public with their romance when they were spotted sharing a kiss in the stands at Wimbledon.

The couple are believed to have split their time between Los Angeles and London, and during the festive period in 2021, Ben secretly proposed to Maya.

However, in August 2022 reports began circulating claiming that Maya had called off her engagement to Ben due to their conflicting work schedules.

Drake

Maya was once linked to Canadian rapper Drake, 36, after he named-dropped her in his verse on Headie One's track Only You in 2020.

After the release of the song, it was reported that Drake had slid into Maya's DMs, but his messages were left unopened as she was dating rapper Stormzy at the time.

Stormzy

Maya's most high-profile romance was with rapper Stormzy, 29, who she started dating in 2015.

The pair were regularly dubbed 'couple goals' by fans online and their romance appeared to be going from strength from strength, with them moving in and getting a dog, Enzo, together.

However, in August 2019 Stormzy and Maya announced that they'd ended their relationship, much to the shock of their fans.

A lot of Stormzy's third album, titled This Is What I Mean, is inspired by his split from Maya.

Rumours about the pair reconciling have been rife over recent months, with them spotted looking cosy at the GQ Men of the Year celebration in London in 2022. Maya shot down the rumours, claiming she and her ex are not back together but remain close friends.

In her interview with The Sunday Times, Maya opened up about her romance with Stormzy, saying: "We were so young when we met, just beginning our careers. I don't think either of us knew it was going to be such a big thing."

Rico Gordon

Prior to finding fame, Maya was dating Rico Gordon before he was tragically killed. She's previously opened up about the heartbreaking ordeal, revealing she was just 16 at the time of Rico's death.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan, she said: "When I was 16 I went through a lot. With my boyfriend passing, it gave me a fearless approach to things. I felt like life was really short."

She continued: "Out of everything that [has] happened in my life, that was a reality check on a massive scale. At 16 you think the world is a fairytale and it took me out of that. It made me even more determined."
