When we looked online, a bacon and egg one was £2.89 when not as a meal.

A small Coke Zero was 99p, so all in all you're looking at saving yourself almost £4 in total by grabbing the free goodies.

Prices may vary depending on where you buy either of the items though.

It comes just days after McDonald's announced it would be giving away free fries as it raised awareness of "fry thefts".

While the McMuffin's from the breakfast bus are free to students between 11am and 4pm, you usually can't bag a maccie's breakfast after 11am, despite people wanting it to be an all-day affair.

That's because the fast food restaurant switches over its menu and starts serving up everyday items like Big Macs and Chicken Legends.

It used to switch to the lunchtime menu half an hour earlier – at 10.30am, but bosses added an extra 30 minutes to the breakfast range in 2019.

Restaurants open 24 hours a day start serving breakfast from 5am.

Every other restaurant kicks off the day with the breakfast menu at their normal opening times.

If you don't want to order maccies takeaway and don't where your nearest branch is, you can find it here.

How can I save on my McDonald's order?

If you're not one of the lucky students in line for a free muffin, there are ways you can save on your next trip to McDonald's.

You should choose your branch wisely – menu prices can vary across different restaurants just a couple of miles apart.

We've seen Big Mac meals up to 30p cheaper before, which added up over the course of a year could save you a fair few pounds.

You can also get freebies on your birthday if you've got the My McDonald's app.

Remember to log your date of birth on the app though – otherwise you'll miss out.

You can get a Big Mac and fries for just £1.99 as well if you fill out the quick feedback survey following your last visit.

All you'll need is your receipt which should have been issued no more than 60 days after your visit.
