Meghan Markle’s ‘killer’ present to brother-in-law Prince William that left him impressed

Meghan Markle’s reported Christmas present to Prince William in 2017 is doing the rounds again.

The 41 year old, who married the future King’s younger brother, Prince Harry in 2018, apparently gifted him a spoon with the words “cereal killer” engraved on it.

At a first glance, this novelty gift seems slightly random and probably not fit for a King, but a longstanding Royal tradition makes it make complete sense.

The claim appeared in the 2020 book Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family, by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand.

And in light of recent events (the highly anticipated Netflix documentary that dropped earlier this month) it seems that people are keen to look back on the relationship between the former Suits actor and her brother in law.

For some context, 2017 was the year Meghan and Harry became engaged, which meant she was officially about to become a member of the Royal family.

But regardless of who you are, you want to make a good impression on your future in-laws, especially at Christmas.

When it comes to the Royal household, there’s apparently a long history of “cheap gag gifts,” with family members buying joke presents throughout the festive season.

Reportedly being eager to impress William, Meghan was fretting over what to buy. But according to the Sunday Times bestseller, the spoon was one of the gifts that proved to be a massive success.

“Meghan’s biggest challenge was finding the perfect novelty gifts to amuse her new extended family,” the authors wrote.

“At least one of her gifts was a huge hit – a spoon for William that had ‘cereal killer’ embossed on the shallow bowl end of the utensil.”

While Meghan made a solid impression that year, both before, during and after the festive season, it’s no secret that tensions have been especially high this year.

Which of course, meant that Harry and Meghan – who stepped down as senior members of the Royal Family in 2020 – didn’t spend Christmas with the Royals at Sandringham.

However, despite the very public fallout over the last couple of years, it does look as though King Charles has offered the pair an olive branch.

The California-based couple have allegedly been invited to the coronation on May 6, 2023, where Harry’s father, formerly Prince Charles will be officially crowned as King.

This occasion probably doesn’t warrant a joke present, but here’s hoping the whole family will be in attendance.
