Health effects of long-term marijuana use
Marijuana use directly affects the brain, specifically the parts of the brain responsible for memory, learning, attention, decision-making, coordination, emotion, and reaction time.
Long-term or frequent marijuana use has been linked to increased risk of psychosis or schizophrenia in some users, according to the CDC.
But a study published in 2019 found that the ‘learning and memory impairments’ caused by heavy and dependent cannabis use appeared to ‘recover after a period of abstinence.’
In the clip, which has been viewed more than two million times, Suede sits in her room wearing a white bra as she talks to camera about her struggles.
She begins: ‘I’m officially two months sober from smoking. Let’s talk about it.’
The YouTuber continued: ‘I’ve been smoking every single day for the past nine years and I haven’t taken a break. It finally got to me.
‘The hardest part was the first week. I was getting cold sweats, vomiting, I couldn’t sleep – it was seriously the worst. I genuinely never wish that feeling upon anyone.
‘I never drink ever. I think it’s disgusting. I’ve just never been a fan of it so anytime I would go out, I would just smoke…
‘And for the longest time I never thought I had a problem with it until I realized the amount of money I was spending.
‘I was going through a pound every three months – and if you smoke weed, you know how expensive that is.’
As of January 2023, a pound of cannabis was said to cost $1,298, according to Statista, but the price has fluctuated in recent years.
This means that Suede has been spending upwards of $5,100 a year on marijuana.
The influencer continued: ‘Now we’re going to get into the changes I’ve felt just this past two months of being sober. Like I said, the first week was absolutely miserable but once you get over the first week it gets easier and easier.
‘I feel so much more confident. I feel like I’m actually on the same wavelength as everyone in the universe, which is a very weird feeling.
‘I’m actually able to leave my house now without having anxiety attacks… Overall I feel so much more energetic, I feel so much more inspired to make content – I always felt like I never wanted to film when I was high, and basically I was high all the time.’

In 2022, she was romantically linked with rapper Drake, who is nearly 15 years her senior.
A source told ET at the time that the pair were ‘having fun together’ and had been ‘yacht hopping.’
The duo, who have many friends in common, were reportedly seen looking ‘sweet’ while ‘whispering in each other’s ears and laughing’ during a hangout in St. Tropez – but it is not thought that the relationship developed further.
