Glastonbury went out with a bang last night, with festival-goers going wild for global music legend Elton John’s final UK performance.
But whilst no one in the 120,000 strong crowd could have failed to be moved by the two-hour, greatest hits set, one woman in her sixties has told of being lifted even higher than her fellow fans — literally.
Taking to Twitter, the 62-year-old solo festival-goer said her highlight ‘was when one of the young men [nearby] scooped me up onto his shoulders during Tiny Dancer.’
Already ‘reasonably close to the front, and central to the stage.’ the music lover was delighted by the hooded young man who carried her on his shoulders so she could get an even better view.
In a heart-warming post affirming the inclusivity that the festival aspires to, the anonymous woman praised ‘the groups of fabulous young people’ stood nearby for enhancing her experience.

Elton John headlined the world-famous Pyramid Stage at this year’s Glastonbury Festival, performing all of his greatest hits during the two hour set
‘It was very busy but I was surrounded by groups of fabulous young people who looked after me well throughout. I had plenty of room to dance,’ she said.
Posted by the account @GlastoGals with the caption ‘Proving that you’re never too old to have festival fun, especially when the generations unite in their love of all things @glastonbury,’ the comment went down extremely well, receiving 828 likes and counting.
More than 200,000 people descended on Worthy Farm in Somerset for this year’s Glastonbury Festival.
Elton John aside, the headline acts included UK indie-rock band the Artic Monkeys, American hard rock band Guns N’ Roses and the soulful singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey.
Other highlights included the crowd supporting Lewis Capaldi and singing his lyrics as he struggled with Tourette’s.
But not everyone was positive about this year’s festival, with some branding it ‘awful’.
The 62-year-old woman’s comments were posted by the account @GlastoGals, which bills itself as an ‘all female, multi generational group with a passion for GlastoFest’
Some branded it ‘too woke’ – even for its usual left-leaning and new age clientele – as masses of Gen Zs shunned DJ sets and bands for political debates and group workout sessions. And caterers were criticised for sky-high prices.
Liam Rogan, 24, said: ‘People are just done with it, it’s depressing. Glastonbury’s been awful this year. Nothing has gone well and none of the acts were show-stopping. I left the Arctic Monkeys, they were that awful.’
But while that may be true, the anonymous woman was unwavering, finishing her post with the highest possible praise:
‘I had the time of my life. Thank you Glastonbury Festival 2023.’
