My brother's unhealthy obsession with Sam Smith is creeping me out | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: MY brother is so obsessed with Sam Smith that he’s bought a life-sized cardboard cut-out and put it in our living room.

Now, if I sit on the sofa, it feels like the singer is staring at me – and it is creeping me out.

I’m 24 and my brother is 21. We’ve shared a flat together for a year.

He’s always liked Sam’s music, but recently he’s gone from fan to total obsessive. He collects Sam Smith pictures, books, vinyl, cuttings . . . if Sam’s on it, he has it.

His bedroom is a shrine to Sam, and the memorabilia is starting to spread to the rest of the flat.

I don’t share my brother’s interest, and if I’m honest I’m a bit worried about him.

This isn’t normal behaviour for a grown man. What should I do?

DEIDRE SAYS: Ask your brother to keep his Sam Smith paraphernalia in his own bedroom, as it isn’t to your taste.

If he is still able to work and function normally, it’s unlikely you need to worry about his hobby – even if it seems extreme.

Perhaps he can relate to Sam in some way, or maybe the music just makes him happy.

Talk to him and ask how he feels.

If he’s unhappy, suggest he contacts The Mix (themix.org.uk, 0808 808 4994).
