Pregnant mum kicks her cousin out of her lavish baby shower after she ‘ruins’ the event with one sentence: ‘She sabotaged the whole day’

  • An expectant mum says her cousin ruined her baby shower
  • The cousin announced her own pregnancy at the event

An expectant mum and her partner were devastated after a family member ‘ruined’ the lavish baby shower they threw for their ‘rainbow’ baby.

A rainbow baby is born after a pregnancy loss. The soon-to-be mum, Rachel*, explained that she and husband had suffered years of infertility and miscarriages.

Posting on Reddit, Rachel said her cousin Nina* ‘sabotaged’ the baby shower by choosing the expensive party as the moment to announce her own pregnancy.

Rachel and her husband had her cousin removed from the party by security after the scene.

The expectant mum said her mother was ‘extremely excited’ for the baby shower and spent thousands on the event, but now no one in the family will speak to them.

‘My husband and I are finally expecting our rainbow baby after years of infertility and multiple miscarriages,’ Rachel explained when she took to Reddit to ask users if they thought she was in the wrong.

‘It’s safe to say we and our family are very freaking excited! My mother is probably the most excited. She’s been planning our baby shower and making decorations for months.’

Rachel’s mum paid almost $1,000 on the venue for the party, and spent hundreds on decorations, food and cake.

Before the party Nina’s mother informed Rachel and her mum that Nina was pregnant.

However, they did not expect their aunt to reveal that Nina planned to announce the news at Rachel’s baby shower.

Her aunt thought that since Rachel is having a big party she wouldn’t mind sharing.

‘She said it’s not a big deal and we both can share the day. I said absolutely not because we have been waiting for this day forever, and it should be all about me and my rainbow baby,’ Rachel said.

Rachel said the day of the baby shower was ‘perfect’ and everything she had waited for, until it was time to eat the cake.

Rachel explained that her aunt stopped everyone from cutting the cake and ran to her car to get a cake and presents for Nina to announce her pregnancy too, but Rachel’s mum told her she couldn’t bring them in.

‘My aunt started throwing a fit, screaming “this is a baby shower, it’s for babies. Cousin is having a baby too, so this day is about her too!”

Rachel’s husband called security on her cousin and aunt, and they were eventually kicked out as they were screaming so much.

Rachel’s family have turned against her for kicking them out and not letting Nina ‘have her moment’.

Hundreds of people came to Rachel’s defence, saying Nina ‘reeks of entitlement and absolutely wanted to steal the spotlight’.

‘This was your day, that you’ve been trying to make possible for years. If she wanted to steal the spotlight, she should have spent the money, time, and effort on her own shower or announcement party,’ one woman said.

Several people suggested Rachel’s aunt should have thrown her own baby shower for Nina if it was so important to her, rather than ‘piggy backing’.

‘She wants to share the day because of money. It’s cheaper and easier to bring a cake to a party that’s already set up and paid for than it is to plan and finance your own party,’ another wrote.

However, some people didn’t see the issue with it, believing Rachel would get to attend Nina’s party in return.

‘Who doesn’t want a second party? Does everyone hate parties and I don’t get it?’ one man asked.
