Robin Roberts’ partner completes radiation amid breast cancer treatment

Robin Roberts shared that her fiancée, Amber Laign, is doing “excellent” amid her battle with breast cancer.

“It was a rough year,” the “Good Morning America” anchor, 62, told “Entertainment Tonight” Tuesday. “Her journey with breast cancer took some unexpected twists and turns, but she is doing really, really, really well.”

Roberts – who is a breast cancer survivor herself – explained that doctors had to “find the right fit for [Laign] with treatment.”

“The prognosis is excellent, and she’s just ready to start a new chapter as well,” she continued.

The positive update comes after Roberts revealed in April 2022 that her partner of 18 years had to suspend her radiation treatments due to “complications with the chemotherapy.”

Fortunately, Laign was able to complete radiation three months later.

“We both thank you for all your well wishes and prayers. Proud of her and all fellow Thrivers for your grit and grace during a challenging time,” Roberts captioned a video of Laign ringing a ceremonial bell at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center last July.

The couple started dating in July 2005, although the newscaster did not come out as gay until December 2013.

Roberts announced in January that she and Laign finally plan to walk down the aisle this year.

“We have a date in mind, [and] the save the date is going to be going out soon,” she told “ET” Tuesday. “I’ve been with this person for 18 years, and we’re still excited, and we still want to be with each other, and we still want to start this new chapter together.”

As for the details of their wedding day, Roberts said she knows what she is going to wear, but she and Laign are still going back and forth on how “traditional” they want the ceremony to be.

One thing they do know, though, is they are ready to “double the chances for single women,” according to Roberts, who noted, “We’re going to have two bouquets!”
