Shark IZ300UKT cordless vacuum cleaner: Quick summary

For a cordless vacuum cleaner, the Shark IZ300UKT has some top of the range features.

It’ll happily tackle carpets or hard floors, and you can toggle between three different speeds at the touch of a button.

The wand also bends so you can clean under furniture – although this takes a bit of getting used to.

Even better, on a full 4-hour charge, it has a 60 minute run time, which is more than enough for most households.

It’s an expensive option, but for us it’s hard to find fault with it.

Overall rating: 4/5

Key features:

The Shark IZ300UKT is one of those all-round machines that will work whether you have carpets or hard floors.

The main features include:

  • DuoClean and PowerFin technology: The two motorised rollers on the main suction head help to pick up every last bit of debris. The rollers have different textures, the PowerFins, which are especially efficient on carpets.
  • Anti-hair wrap: This is a special bristle guard on Shark’s vacuum cleaners that stops hairs from tangling up in the brush head.
  • Suction head with lights: The main suction head has lights that help highlight every bit of dust on your floor.
  • Flexology wand: The wand bends in half so you can use the device to clean under sofas and beds. You can also fold the device over for storage.
  • Long battery life: After a 4-hour charge, the device will run for up to 60 minutes, which is pretty decent compared to its competitors. You can also buy additional battery packs to really extend your usage time.

In the box, you also get three different attachments: a 20cm crevice tool (no brush on this), a multi-surface tool (can be used with or without brush attachment), and a motorised PowerFins pet tool.

Setup:

The Shark IZ300UKT requires minimal setup, although you will need to charge it for 4 hours before first use.

In upright mode, you just have to slot the Flexology wand into the main suction head, and then do the same again with the main body of the device.

The body contains the 0.7L dust tank, filters, battery and of course the operating panel.

On handheld modes, you just slot in the relevant attachment onto the end of the device; you can use it with or without the wand, making the device even more versatile.

Each section has an easily accessible release button so disassembly is easy too.

Usage

The Shark IZ300UKT is deceptively powerful – compared to the Shark NZ801UKT we tested recently, it’s much quieter but still manages to cover all the bases.

You can use it in a few different ways but for most households it will be in the upright mode.

While the main body isn’t the lightest when it comes to cordless devices, we found the device fairly easy to navigate in this mode.

In part, this is thanks to the comparatively compact suction head, which was able to fit into crevices that we haven’t been able to reach with other devices.

The suction head is equipped with lights, which makes it easy to spot any dust on the floor.

We also liked that you can get under raised furniture using the Flexology wand, although controlling the direction of the suction head is a little harder in this setup.

The one downside is that on a carpeted floor and rugs, the movement can get a little clunky, as the PowerFins really dig into the piles to lift up the dirt.

You get a deeper clean but it does mean more effort.

In handheld modes, the device also does a pretty decent job.

It’s worth bearing in mind that it’s heavier and bigger than other handheld devices, which means it might not suit those with mobility problems or if you’re trying to detail a small car with lots of tight spaces.

Once you’re finished, the Shark IZ300UKT folds down for storage, which means you can easily fit it in a cupboard – the top is actually too heavy to stand up on its own.

Maintenance:

Maintenance requirements on the Shark IZ300UKT is pretty minimal.

You can empty the dust tank at the touch of a button while it’s still attached to the main body, or remove it altogether to rinse clean.

It’s best to empty the dust tank after every clean although it does have enough capacity to store a couple of clean’s worth of dust and debris, depending on how dirty your home is.

For optimum results, Shark recommends rinsing the pre-motor filter with water at least once a month, and the post-motor filter at least once a year.

In between, you can just shake off any dirt if it gets clogged up.

Thanks to the anti-hair wrap technology, you shouldn’t need to do much to clean the brush rollers, although the occasional rinse under the tap should keep them in top condition.

The device also has a guarantee of up to 5 years, with the guarantee limited to 2 years on the battery.

Shark IZ300UKT cordless vacuum cleaner: The verdict

  • Shark IZ300UKT cordless vacuum cleaner, £429.99 from Shark – buy here

The Shark IZ300UKT is a great all-round machine that does just about everything you’d need a cordless vacuum cleaner to do.

It’s pretty expensive compared to other cordless vacuum cleaners out there, so if you’re just looking for a no frills model, there are probably better options.

But we think it actually represents pretty good value for money.

The battery life is impressive for what’s a relatively short charge time, and the cleaning power is decent, too.

You can use it in handheld mode as well, which makes it even more versatile.

But we particularly liked that you can easily buy replacement parts for it, which will help extend the life of your device for years to come.
