Elliot Page’s new memoir has revealed some explosive revelations which included a secret relationship with Kate Mara

Elliot says he had secret relationship with Kate Mara – who was dating Max Minghella at the time

The Oscar-nominated Juno star says in his memoir that he and Kate, now 40, struck up a romance as he filmed X-Men: Days Of Future Past.

Page writes: ‘The first person I fell for after my heart was broken was Kate Mara. She had a boyfriend at the time, the lovely and talented Max Minghella.

‘This was right after I’d come out as gay [in 2014] and it was a time of exploration and also heartbreak. I think my relationship, or whatever you want to call it with Kate, very much encapsulates a certain dynamic that I consistently found myself in, which was falling for people that — I think a lot of us do this — who aren’t fully available.

‘And the sort of safety in that and the highs and the lows and the serotonin bump, and then it goes away. And I think that is definitely a pattern in my life.

‘I think the love and care that we have for each other is it’s very own special thing. Separate from the intimacy that I write about.’

Elliot said Max was supportive of Kate exploring their relationship, which was kept a secret from the world.

The actor says Kate told him: ‘I never thought I could be in love with two people and now I know I can.’

The pair played a couple in movie My Days of Mercy, which premiered in 2017 and was released in 2019 – this was made after their romance.

Page added that Kate has read the book and will appear at a book event in LA in June to promote it.

Kate and Max went their separate ways in 2014 after four years of dating. She is now married to actor Jamie Bell, with whom she shares two children.

The actor claims he had sex with Juno co-star Olivia Thirlby ‘all the time’ during filming

Elliot said he was instantly attracted to Olivia, now 36, who played Juno’s best friend Leah, as he recounted their fling.

‘I was taken aback the moment I saw Olivia Thirlby. She seemed so much older, capable, and centered,’ he wrote.

‘Sexually open, far removed from where I was at the time. But the chemistry was palpable, it pulled me in.’

Elliot – who played pregnant teen Juno MacGuff in the film – recounted how they started ‘sucking face’ in a hotel room after Olivia confessed she was ‘really attracted’ to him.

He wrote: ‘It was on. I had an all-encompassing desire for her, she made me want in a way that was new, hopeful.’

Elliot added it was one of the first times someone would make him orgasm.

Olivia (pictured in 2019) came out as bisexual publicly in 2011 and she has been married to Jacques Pienaar since 2014

Elliot said he and Olivia began having sex ‘all the time,’ writing: ‘Her hotel room, in our trailers at work, once in a tiny, private room in a restaurant… We thought we were being subtle. Being intimate with Olivia helped my shame dissipate. I didn’t see a glint of it in her eyes and I wanted that – done feeling wretched about who I am.’

The Umbrella Academy star recalls how a ‘famous a**hole’ told him being gay ‘doesn’t exist’ in homophobic remarks

The 36-year-old actor recounted the moment in a chapter entitled ‘Famous A**hole at Party.’

The person was an actor who Elliot referred to as an ‘acquaintance,’ but his name was never revealed in the book.

He recalled being told by the actor: ‘You aren’t gay. That doesn’t exist. You are just afraid of men.’

Then, Elliot claims the actor told him: ‘I’m going to f*** you to make you realize you aren’t gay.’

Several days later, he ran into the actor at the gym.

‘I don’t have a problem with gay people I swear,’ the actor insisted.

‘I think you might,’ Elliot replied.

While Elliot said he was ‘purposely not sharing his name,’ he said the interaction was witnessed by many people at the party, adding: ‘But he will hear about this and know it’s him.’

Elliot included this particular story in the book to shine a light on the realities of what the LGBTQ+ community routinely face.

‘I’ve had some version of that happen many times throughout my life. A lot of queer and trans people deal with it incessantly. These moments that we often like don’t talk about or we’re supposed to just brush off, when actually it’s very awful,’ he said.

‘I put that story in the book because it’s about highlighting the reality, the s*** we deal with and what gets sent to us constantly, particularly in environments that are predominantly cis and heterosexual.’

‘I’m going to f***ing gay bash you, f***ot’: Terrifying street attack in LA

In another shocking recollection, Elliot details the moment a ‘tall man’ carrying a slushy unleashed a homophobic tirade against him on the streets of LA.

The actor said he was walking from a hotel to the corner of Sunset and La Cienega Boulevards when he passed his attacker who began yelling at him.

‘”Don’t look at me, you f***ing f***ot! F***ot!” He screamed this at me, over and over. Every f***ot getting louder. No one near us on the sidewalk,’ Elliot wrote.

‘He was about three feet away, standing over me. I froze. There was no room for me to tell him I was, in fact, not looking at him. He just kept yelling. I was worried that if I turned to run it would trigger a reaction, and the same if I said something.

‘So I just stood solid, looking forward, doing my best to seem unaffected. And in the moment I was, because I was in shock.’

His attacker backed off for a bit and Elliot made a phone call to Madisyn, who he was dating at the time.

Unfortunately this call ‘triggered’ the attacker and he doubled down on his efforts.

‘”Don’t you f***ing talk about me, f***ot. I know you’re talking about me. I’m going to beat you up, f**!”‘ Elliot wrote of the man’s renewed attack.

‘He charged toward me from behind, yelling at me, Madisyn hearing all this through the phone…. He started coming faster. This time I ran, trying to reach Pink Dot before he reached me.’

Eventually he took shelter inside the Pink Dot, with one worker locking the attacker out and another offering Elliot words of comfort and support.

Elliot details a ‘painful’ relationship with a closeted costar

Although Elliot did not name this specific co-star, he writes that the pair secretly held hands while onset, avoided being seen together by exiting hotels through separate doors, and wouldn’t glance at each other in public.

The actor said he had met the actress — who he refers to only as ‘Ryan’ — 10 years ago on the set of a film and they fell ‘desperately in love’ with one another.

He said some people who he considered close friends didn’t know about his relationship with the closeted costar.

Elliot said keeping their relationship a secret was ‘far too painful.’

‘My partner was more closeted than me for a change,’ writes the Hard Candy star, who goes on to detail the ‘discreet but adventurous sex’ they had.

The on-screen star recalls one under-the-radar meeting that the pair had in a coffee shop when he was 26, writing that he was bowled over by her beauty, both inside and out.

‘She was radiant – her dress, her smile, how she pushed her hair from her face… We discussed books, activism, our collective consciousness, and the deep intelligence of nature,’ he writes.

That innocent meeting evolved into a much more passionate relationship, with Elliot laying bare their wild sexual escapades, telling readers they ‘had a lot of fun’ despite the secrecy.

‘[We had] discreet but adventurous sex. On rocks, just below the Pacific Coast Highway, hidden in boulders in Joshua Tree National Park, on an airplane,’ he recalls.

Pageboy was released Tuesday, June 6 and gives fans a ‘brutally honest’ look at his career and personal life

They traveled together and Page recalls being in the Air Canada lounge waiting for a flight when Ryan decided to pen a heartfelt note to him in the back sleeve of a book he was reading.

‘She began to write in the back sleeve, an outpouring of love, one of the most beautiful letters I have ever received,’ he remembers fondly.

However, while ‘Ryan’ seemed to have strong feelings for Elliot, she insisted on keeping the relationship from her parents and he writes that they went to extreme lengths to hide it.

‘Her parents did not know. I was the friend that came for Christmas… We never touched outside, we barely went to dinner,’ he reveals.

He even noted that the woman was ‘under the name “Ryan”‘ in his cellphone.

Eventually, the ‘lying, the anxiety, the disgust’ became too much to handle and the actress broke up with Elliot, who says he was ‘shattered’ by the split, while suggesting that his co-star couldn’t ‘handle the shame’ of being seen as a queer person.

‘Ultimately, I do think she loved me. We loved each other and that was very real in our bubble. It was fantastic. You know, it was really beautiful,’ he went on.

‘I admired her and how she inspired me in many ways. But feeling hidden was far too painful. That was impossible and not a sustainable relationship at all. And it taught me that I was not gonna do that again.’
