Tiger Woods withdraws from The Masters ahead of third round resumption

Tiger Woods has withdrawn from The Masters at Augusta National ahead of the resumption of the third round due to a foot injury.

The legendary golfer was making just his second start of 2023 in cold and wet conditions which has seen trees tumble over and play halted at various points.

Woods, a 15-time major champion, registered a second-round 74 on Saturday to secure a record-equalling 23rd consecutive cut at the prestigious tournament.

But the 47-year-old former world No.1 suffered a poor start to his third round and has now decided to pull out, with play set to resume around 1.30pm BST.

‘I am disappointed to have to WD this morning due to reaggravating my plantar fasciitis,’ Woods posted on Twitter.

‘Thank you to the fans and to The Masters who have shown me so much love and support. Good luck to the players today!’

Woods seemed to be in physical discomfort over his first seven holes of the third round with two bogeys and two double-bogeys leaving him bottom of the leaderboard by three shots on nine over.

He had 11 holes left to play of the third round and likely would have crashed out ahead of the final round.

Woods has only competed 72 holes twice since the car crash in February 2021 which threatened to end his career.
