An artist challenged herself to create a version of a £5,000 designer dress worn by Kim Kardashian for only £5.

Kate Olivia Mottershaw, 28, of London, started the Kate Illustrate TikTok page where she showcases her artwork to followers.

One of her latest projects was a re-creation of a John Galliano dress worn by Kim Kardashian on a trip to Rome.

The silk slip dress from the eclectic designer, often worn in celebrity circles, featured cherries, butterflies and faces.

Kate told FEMAIL: ‘I didn’t want to ‘copy’ the dress like for like, but I was inspired to make something similar.

‘I loved the cherries, the lady birds and butterflies but added pink florals instead of female faces (which are on the original dress).  I am so happy with the overall result.’

Kate, who has also replicated dresses worn by other members of the Kardashian clan, bought the Missguided white dress for £5 on Vinted, and used leather paint to add the details.

The £5 Missguided dress was from Vinted and was painted on using leather paints Kate has used on Doc Martens and leather jackets

The exquisite work was met with delight from fans who said they even ‘preferred’ Kate’s version to the original

She said: ‘I used leather paints that I’ve had for years due to the bridal jackets I offer with my work.’

At the end of the video Kate showcases the dress, which looks stunning. Some fans said ‘I actually prefer this version’ upon watching the clip.

Kate didn’t expect the positive reaction from her clip saying: ‘When you post on social media you always hope to grab people’s attention after putting a huge amount of time and effort into creating not just the dress, but the videos which go alongside it.

‘So it’s nice to receive this type of recognition, especially with something which I’ve enjoyed creating.’

For the past three years Kate has been painting on leather jackets, Dr.Martens boots and trainers for weddings.

She then decided she ‘wanted to create something for herself’.

Kate, who also hosts calligraphy classes has always had a passion for art and graduated from Leeds University with an Arts and Design degree, she began her journey in her spare time whilst working in retail and now does art full-time

She originally saw a dress worn by Kylie Jenner that she wore at Kourtney Kardashian’s wedding this year.

She said: ‘I decided that I wanted it so, I challenged myself to paint it and as a result I love it and wanted to paint more.’

Kate graduated from Leeds University with a degree in art and design but doing work on the side whilst in retail she gained the confidence to follow her passion.

She told FEMAIL: ‘I always knew I wanted to work in Art. I’ve always focused on this throughout my education. Whilst working in retail, I started to create wall murals for customers on a weekend.

‘This gave me the confidence to start Kate Illustrate and expand into other areas such as calligraphy.’

Kate holds calligraphy classes and wall and window art which she has spent hours creating.

She said ‘My wall and window art is something I’m extremely proud of. Being able to support local businesses to stand out when high street shops are struggling is amazing to be able to do.’

You can view Kate’s stunning work on her website kate-illustrate.co.uk.

A highlight of her job is the calligraphy classes that she currently runs. The artist offers these in the Ribble Valley (Near Clitheroe), Manchester and a special London class which she’s holding at EL&N near Harrods on the 24th August this year.
