Sonali Chandra, an Indian-American dancer, model, and comedian from New Jersey, says she believes sex is a ‘sacred and special’ act, so she’s waiting until she has a ring on her finger to participate in it.

However, her abstinence has made it hard for her to date, since she revealed most of her potential suitors have run the other way after they found out that she was a virgin.

‘I have only dated nine men – including three serious relationships – and all nine were jerks when they found out about my virginity,’ she said.

‘I consider sex sacred and special. In fact, I don’t even like the word “sex,” I prefer “making love.” I’ll be ready [to make love] when I have a ring from “the one.”‘

As a child, Sonali said she grew up in a super-strict household. Her parents, both from India, didn’t allow her to have any sleepovers – and dating was strictly off the table.

She wasn’t even allowed to go to prom, and when it came time for college, she was told she couldn’t live in a dorm.

‘My strict upbringing absolutely has had a profound impact on my dating life. I was not allowed to socialize and dating was a big no-no,’ she explained.

‘Dating is a life skill, and I was forbidden from developing that skill in my teenage and college years.’

Sonali’s love life was practically non-existent until her 20s – she had her first kiss at age 26 – and now, fast forward to present day, at age 35, she admitted that she still ‘has no clue how to date.’

‘I spend every weeknight exercising so I don’t feel lonely and I spend Saturday and Sunday nights alone in my studio apartment, which is very depressing,’ she said. ‘I go to sleep by 8pm to numb my emotional pain.’

In a desperate attempt to find her future-husband, Sonali went on the Lifetime dating show Five Guys A Week recently; but unfortunately, she didn’t form a strong connection with any of the guys.

‘In this provocative new social experiment, one adventurous single woman invites five eligible bachelors to move in with her for a week to see who is “The One,”’ a description of the show reads.

‘While living in cramped quarters, sharing a bathroom, and dividing up the housework, these men will need to be on their best behavior or miss out on the possibility of true love.’

While it didn’t work out in the end, Sonali stilled called the experience ‘surreal, fun, and relaxing.’

‘Since conventional dating methods haven’t worked for me as men get scared off when they learn I still have my V-card … I was seeking a new strategy to find love, hence why I joined Five Guys A Week,’ she explained.

Back in 2020, the model went on Dr. Phil to discuss her dating struggles, and she explained that her parents wanted her to agree to an arranged marriage after college

But she was ‘shocked and disgusted’ by the idea. Sonali (seen with her parents) said: ‘I would rather remain a virgin and be single the rest of my life than be married to the wrong guy’

‘Being on the show was a surreal experience – I had never done anything like that before. It was very fun and relaxing to just enjoy the experience of finding love.’

Back in 2020, the model went on Dr. Phil to discuss her dating struggles, and she explained that her parents wanted her to agree to an arranged marriage after college, but she was ‘shocked and disgusted’ by the idea.

‘I would rather remain a virgin and be single the rest of my life than be married to the wrong guy,’ she said.

She also told the talk show host that she couldn’t understand why men kept leaving her.

‘I’m confused and perplexed. I have all these great qualities. Why is it so tough for me to find the one who won’t be scared off when I tell him he would be my first and hopefully only?’ she asked.

Despite her bad luck so far, Sonali is still hopeful that she’ll find her soulmate, and has no plans to give up any time soon.

‘I am looking for a chivalrous gentleman who is moral and ethical, handsome, ambitious, health-oriented, and will treat me like a Queen,’ she dished to Daily Star. ‘I want what Priyanka Chopra has with Nick Jonas.’

She recently connected with someone who sent her a supportive message after her Dr. Phil appearance, but she isn’t sure if their romance will last since they live in different states.

She said she couldn’t understand why men kept leaving her. She asked: ‘Why is it so tough for me to find the one who won’t be scared off when I tell him he would be my first?’

‘He has an incredibly calm demeanor, which balances my vivacious personality. I feel like I have known him for eternity, and I feel comfortable around him.’

The couple grew close through texting and video chatting, but were able to meet in person one time.

‘He was slightly flirtatious but was completely respectful of my boundaries given that I’m a virgin. He didn’t even try to kiss me,’ she recalled of their meetup.

‘Since our meeting, I have not been able to stop thinking about him. However, I have no clue what he thinks of me or when I’ll meet him again, which is heart-wrenching.

‘I do believe that friendship is the foundation of any relationship and that time will tell what happens between us. I know for a fact that my parents would love him.’
