WETHERSPOONS is slashing prices TODAY meaning customers will be able to get hold of cheaper booze and food.

The pub chain said customers can enjoy up to 7.5% off across its over 800 venues in the UK.

But Wetherspoons fans will have to get down to their nearest pub sharpish, as the offer is only available for one day.

A large breakfast at Wetherspoons is usually £6.30, but the discount means it would be £5.83 – saving 47p.

You could also save 55p on a classic burger and soft drink – with the price going from £7.45 to £6.90.

One thing to bear in mind though is that prices vary across the country, so you might save less or more.

The price of beer varies across the country, but a £3.50 pint would be reduced to £3.24.

The move from Wetherspoons is designed to highlight Tax Equality Day and the benefits of a permanently reduced tax bill for the pub industry.

Pubs and restaurants pay 20% VAT, which had been reduced to 5% during the pandemic.

Spoons boss Tim Martin has urged the new Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng to reduce the rate of VAT again to help pubs fight against big supermarket chains.

He has claimed that the higher rate for pubs puts supermarkets at an unfair advantage.

Grocers don't pay VAT on food and so can pass that saving on to customers by selling discounted booze.

Mr Martin said: "Customers in our pubs will find the price of their food and drink will be lower than normal on Tax Equality Day.

“The Chancellor should note that the main impact of tax inequality is on high streets and town and city centres, which heavily depend on a diversity of prosperous hospitality businesses for economic, social and employment success."

The discount will not apply to alcohol in Scotland due to licensing regulations.

It also excludes airports and the Republic of Ireland.

Over the summer the pub has been has been selling a number of of bevvies for just £1.99 – and punters can take advantage of the offer until September 30.

It's best to ask your local Wetherspoons for more information about which drinks are included in the deal.

You can find your local branch using the chain's pub checker tool on its website.

Remember to double check prices before you go – the majority of Wetherspoon pubs will be offering the deal, but city centre pubs may cost slightly more.

It's not the only deal you can get before the end of September.

You can get two bottled lagers for £5 including Peroni, Estrella Galicia and Desperados.

While you can get three for £5 on these drinks too:

  • Camden Hells lager
