Which Iceland stores are closing down? | The Sun

ICELAND is popular with customers looking to shop for less, but you might want to check if your local is preparing to close for good.

The supermarket has announced it will be shutting some stores this year – here's a roundup of locations.

Iceland first started shutting locations in February and a string of closures have followed.

There are currently around 500 Iceland branches and 153 Food Warehouse stores in the UK.

Below we explain which branches are due to shut soon, the ones that have already closed and if any more are at risk of closure.

Two Iceland stores are set to close on Saturday, April 22.

Iceland shoppers in Newport, South Wales, will lose their branch in Clarence Place tomorrow.

While Iceland in Marygate, Berwick, will also shut its doors tomorrow for the final time.

A company spokesperson previously told The Sun : "We continually review our Iceland Foods and The Food Warehouse store portfolio to ensure we’re delivering the best experiences for our customers across the country."

It comes as several high street retailers face closures due to rising living costs.

Some are also still taking the hit from plummeted sales during the pandemic.

Which stores have already shut?

The following stores shut on February 25 this year:

  • Mill Lane, Bromsgrove – closed on February 25
  • Chineham Shopping Centre in Basingstoke – closed on February 25
  • White Rose Centre, Rhyl – closed on March 14
  • South Street, Newport, Isle of Wight – closed on March 25
  • St Catherine’s Place, Bedminster, Bristol – closed on March 25
  • Deiniol Centre, Bangor – closed on March 27

When the stores in Berwick and Newport shut, the total number of closures will total eight so far this year.

Will there be more closures?

It's not clear at the moment whether more branches will follow suit later in the year.

Typically, though, Iceland opens more than 20 new stores each year, with 24 new stores opened in the past year.
