You can rent an entire Grade II listed former hotel with its very own pub

Have a big group looking for somewhere unique to stay in the Peak District?

Fear not, as now you can rent a former hotel with its very own pub from just £30 per person, per night.

The Temple in Matlock Bath sleeps a total of 34 people in 15 bedrooms – plus boasts two hot tubs, a games room and two equipped bars.

And it’s fabulously decorated with stylish furniture and tasteful décor.

The Georgian Grade II listed building is a former hotel, located in two acres of hillside in the historic Peak District village, and was just recently refurbished in 2019.

For those who want a party atmosphere, the property is more than ideal.

There is a games room/pub with its own pool table as well as table tennis, an air hockey table, a piano and a six-speaker karaoke machine with lights.

It also has an open fire, for which a first basket of logs is provided, and a large bar with a bottle fridge. This all means you can have a cosy night at the pub without having to walk out the front door.

Upstairs, in the first-floor south wing, there is a large kitchen with two gas range ovens and hobs, three dishwashers, two microwaves, two kettles, two toasters, two washing machines and two American style fridge/freezers. So everything is covered.

The kitchen is across the way from the dining room, which is also known as the Byron Room.

There’s plenty of seating for guests and it has lovely views of Riber Castle, the limestone cliffs, the River Derwent and the village.

The room is named after Lord Byron, who is one of several high-profile historic guests at The Temple.

The poet was said to have been ‘so moved by his stay’ that he etched a poem on the dining room window.

A young Queen Victoria also signed the same pane as a young princess during a visit.

For a cold night, the former hotel has a cosy snug with comfy seating and a Smart TV/DVD.

Adjoining the kitchen is the lounge bar – with its own bottle fridge, so guests can enjoy a drink during their stay.

This bar is next to the main lounge, which also has seating for everyone and is fitted with a wall of glass windows for panoramic views.

The room comes with a large Smart TV, a bluetooth/USB/DAB/CD music system and a wood burning stove.

Likewise, the 15 bedrooms all come with at least a king-size bed, but some have super kings.

In addition to the amazing facilities, there is a stunning garden with two hot tubs. Outdoor dining is also a must during the warmer months, with two charcoal BBQs on site.

The property is described as ‘great for large groups looking for heaps of space and freedom to do their own thing, before exploring the Peak District together.’

There is off-road parking for up to 20 vehicles in the designated area opposite the building and in the adjoining car park to the side.

One reviewer wrote of The Temple: ‘The location is excellent, the view from the garden and living room was beautiful. We had a ball and made the most of the hot tubs, our own pub and bar in the living room.’

Bookings can be made now through Holiday Cottages.
