A 'House of the Dragon' Showrunner Is Leaving the Series Ahead of Season 2

House of the Dragon is only just getting started on HBO and one of the showrunners is already leaving the series. According to the Hollywood Reporter, co-showrunner and director Miguel Sapochnik is bowing out of the series after three years (yep, it’s been in production for that long), and his co-creator Ryan Condal will now be showrunning solo.

But there’s no drama to be found. Apparently Miguel will stay on as an executive producer throughout the series, and has a deal to develop new projects with HBO.

Meanwhile, Game of Thrones vet Alan Taylor has been brought on to direct some episodes in the upcoming season 2, as well as executive produce.

As HBO put it, “Miguel Sapochnik has done amazing work on the first season of House of the Dragon, establishing its signature look and feel. This series simply could not have come together the way it did without him. While we would have loved to have Miguel continue in the same role, we are thrilled to have his ongoing collaboration in this new creative capacity. Looking forward, we’ve had a decades-long relationship with Alan Taylor, and we are delighted to have him join Ryan and rest the talented team.”

This has been a HOTD update, as you were!
