A Place in the Sun couple brought to tears by over-budget dream home

A fussy buyer broke down in tears on Channel 4's A Place in the Sun after being shown her dream home which was almost £40,000 over their minimum budget.

Property expert and presenter Jasmine Harman was enlisted to help picky couple Sarah and Greg search for their ideal holiday home in the Charente region of France.

The couple wanted a four-bedroom property with a budget of £250,000 – with wiggle room of up to £50,000 more.

Sarah was keen on a large French-style open kitchen while Greg wanted a garage – but one thing they both agreed on was their need for a pool, or space to install one themselves.

But the search started badly when Jasmine admitted she was "disappointed” by the coupe’s reaction to her first offering.

“This isn’t what they were expecting but I had hoped they’d like it,” she said.

The second property was received slightly better but Jasmine realised the kitchen would be the deal-breaker.

It seemed to get better when the couple were shown a three-bedroom house with an open-plan kitchen – but it just wasn't enough to convince them both.

“We’re getting there but I don’t know if we’re there,” Sarah said and Greg added: “A few niggles.”

“For me, I love the kitchen but I go to the lounge and I don’t know if it’s grabbing me,” Sarah said before turning to her husband. “You’re worried about the garden.”

“We’ve got the swimming pool fixed in our mind but I’m not sure about the gradient of the garden,” he noted.

“We’re fussy,” he added and Jasmine commented: “You’re really making me work for it. I totally get it, it has to be right.”

Thankfully, the final property was a winner and even left Sarah in tears as she's finally found her dream property.

Sarah wiped away her tears and said: "It makes me want to cry, this is the first time I’ve got emotional. We’ve found what we’re looking for.”

After taking time to think about the property, the couple asked Jasmine to put forward an offer of £270,000 on the final house.

This offer was almost £30,000 lower than the asking price but the owner suggested a counteroffer of £285,000 which was accepted by the couple.
