AGT Recap: A New Frontrunner for Season 17 Emerges
In the sixth round of auditions for the talent competition show, a variety of acts and contestants perform in front of the judges in hopes of getting a chance to win the coveted $1 million prize.
AceShowbiz -The auditions for “America’s Got Talent” continued in the Tuesday, July 12 episode. In the new outing for the NBC talent competition show, a variety of acts and contestants performed in front of the judges in hopes of getting a chance to win the coveted $1 million prize. Howie Mandel, however, was unable to join fellow judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara and Heidi Klum because he was feeling sick.
Kicking off the sixth round of the auditions was boy band Travis Japan. The 7-person band flaunted their dance moves while singing their original song about all things Hollywood. Sofia thought it was such a “super fun” performance, while Simon noted that the group was “fascinating” and “very funny.” The band moved forward to the next round.
Following it up was Dino Don, who brought a group of “animal trainers” to “America’s Got Talent”. Apparently, he was joined by people who were dressed as raptors with the trainers singing alongside them. Simon was unimpressed, calling the group one of the “worst acts we’ve ever had.” Also failing to impress the judges, excluding Simon, was Shenay Kloss who brought out a cockroach circus.
Moving on from animal acts, Ben Waites took the stage in a wheelchair because he has arthrogryposis multiplex congenita. He sang an amazing rendition of “True Colors” and earned a standing ovation from the judges. His performance even moved Sofia to tears with Heidi gushing, “You have a lot of talent. It was beautiful.” Ben was sent to the next round.
Following it up was Duo Rings, who wowed everyone with a stunning and sexy aerial performance. “It was mesmerizing. It was so elegant,” Heidi said. Meanwhile, Simon claimed that the performance “felt different from this kind of act we’ve seen before.” Later, Acapop Kids performed the song “My Turn” in honor of their friend and former group member Nolan Gibbons, who passed away at just 15 years old. The judges loved the emotional performance and the group unsurprisingly moved forward.
Also joining them in the next round were modern illusionists Henry and Klauss who kept the judges and the audience guessing until the very end. “That was spectacular!” Sofia raved. Whip-cracking act Adam Winrich later hit the stage and asked Sofia to be a part of his performance. Simon pressed the X button, but Sofia and Heidi thought he deserved a chance to move to the next round.
Colombian dancers Stefanny and Yeeremy performed next. Sofia was thrilled about them and Heidi said that they’re her “favorite dancing couple that we’ve seen all season.” Following it up was violinist Alex Rivers, who returned for a second chance. Simon previously told him that he hated the song choice and this time around, Alex impressed him and others with his performance of Dua Lipa‘s “New Rules”. Alex was moving on.
The next performers were The Balla Brothers, who left the judges and audience shocked with their jaw-dropping balancing act. “You guys are nuts!” Heidi exclaimed. The Balla Brothers were sent to the next round. Concluding the night was singer Wyn Starks. He hit the stage to sing an original song titled “Who I AM”, which he dedicated to his twin brother who recently died. Simon dubbed his performance “extraordinary,” adding, “I think this could be a life-changing moment for you.” Seemingly becoming the new season 17 frontrunner, Wyn moved to the next round.
