Phillip Schofield’s This Morning departure addressed by hosts

With This Morning continuing to make headlines following Phillip Schofield’s sensational exit from the show, which he announced on Saturday, other ITV stars are bound to be impacted.

With Phillip’s exit taking place with immediate effect and his co-star Holly Willoughby on an early half-term break, it was left to Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary to present Monday and Tuesday’s editions of the show after the weekend’s bombshell news.

On Wednesday, Alison was back fronting the show once again, this time with Craig Doyle.

While she is experienced with hosting This Morning, Alison now faces the added pressure of stepping in for the classic duo.

According to body language expert Darren Stanton, it seems Alison is “feeling the pressure” of the This Morning chaos.

Speaking on behalf of Betfair, Darren stated Alison appeared “very confident” as she took on “greater responsibility” during today’s show.

However, the specialist also detailed she has “a lot of pressure on her shoulders”.

“Alison is a very confident woman,” Darren explained, continuing: “She’s been with This Morning for a very long time.

“However, as Phillip and Holly have been the main presenters for so long, I think there is a lot of pressure on Alison’s shoulders.

“Whether she is presenting with Craig or Dermot, she appears to be the stronger person in the dynamic – but I can tell she feels the pressure as the most prevalent person in the running.

Speculation increased on Saturday when Phillip took to Instagram to explain he would be stepping down from his presenting role, which he has kept since 2002.

He told fans: “I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story.

“Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind.

“I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.

“So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future.”

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
