1899 follows a group of immigrants on a steamship travelling from London to New York. They get caught up in a mysterious riddle after finding a second vessel known as The Prometheus adrift on the open sea. They come across an unusual object known as the pyramid in the Netflix series.

What is the pyramid in 1899?

Viewers have been left with question after question as the mystery of the missing Prometheus continues to grow more complex.

When Maura Franklin (played by Emily Beecham) and Eyk Larsen (Andreas Pietschmann) first discovered the missing boat, they came across a boy who had been locked in a cabinet.

He would not speak, but he was carrying an object in his hands, which appeared to be a black pyramid.

Desperate to find out how he came to be on the abandoned ship, Maura rescued him and tried to encourage him to speak up.

However, instead of giving her answers, he just pointed to the pyramid, suggesting it was the key that solved the mystery.

Over the course of the series, it became clear that the pyramid provided a means of time travel.

The boy used the pyramid to move between ships, and between different realms, whether they be dreams or reality.

He also used the object to return to the ship after being thrown overboard, having been accused of being responsible for the deaths.

Maura soon realised the pyramid had saved her life when a bullet was fired at her, and time stopped.

She was able to pluck the stationary bullet from the air as the world stood still around her.

At that time, the full extent of the pyramid’s power was not known.

The pyramid had been a symbol both on the ship, making the entrances to the portals, and it had been tattooed on the boy’s neck.

Towards the end of the series, it was revealed Maura’s father had been in charge of the missing ships.

He had been looking into the mental health of his passengers and was experimenting with their minds.

After locating a portal between the ship and where her father was hiding, she came across his location.

Next to the mental health hospital stood a black pyramid, which looked the same as the small object the boy had been holding.

The young boy had been working with Daniel (Aneurin Barnard), who also revealed his true identity towards the end of the series.

He revealed himself to be Maura’s husband, claiming they married 12 years ago and she had somehow forgotten him.

For reasons yet to be disclosed, he was tracking her in an attempt to warn her of something bad happening.

Yet Maura believed he was only there to harm her, and she locked him in a room while she went in search of Eyk.

The pyramid may have saved Maura’s life once, but it also led to grave danger for her and the rest of the passengers.

1899 is airing on Netflix now.
