American Idol’s Ryan Seacrest slammed for being ‘a d**k’
American Idol: Katy Perry misleads a contestant
American Idol fans have slammed host Ryan Seacrest for his brutal comments made against the contestants.
Seacrest is infamous for not pulling his punches during the competition, but many fans thought his “nasty” tone this week went over the line.
The 48-year-old TV and radio presenter told one hopeful: “You sang Lose You to Love Me. We might lose you tonight.”
Some viewers also accused Seacrest of misleading another contestant when he said “America wants to see more power” before they were eliminated.
His remark immediately sparked a backlash online, with some Idol fans even calling for Seacrest to get fired from the show.
On Reddit, user u/ChenilleSocks exclaimed: “Ryan, come ON. Be more clear when you’re crushing these people.”
u/Weekly_Salary_8023 simply said: “That was mean Ryan.” And LennyBeans fumed: “Ryan is being such a d**k tonight lol this is brutallllll AF.” (sic)
And u/glimmerskies commented: “‘We might lose you tonight’ was so nasty omg.”
“Ryan really needs to leave the show. He’s been so off today and yesterday, he just seems done,” u/Fancy_Tea_6182 claimed.
Although u/MarionCotesworthHaye argued: “Ryan keeping this episode moving at breakneck pace without it feeling rushed. That’s why he deserves his paycheck.”

ABC has announced no plans to replace Seacrest and it’s expected he will continue to host Idol into its 22nd season.
Meanwhile, his hosting style wasn’t the only thing stirring controversy on the show this week as pop star judge Katy Perry also raised some eyebrows.
She sparked a backlash of her own when she couldn’t help letting her feelings about Elijah McCormick’s surprise elimination known.
Fans have accused her of being “dismissive” when she failed to give top 20 contestant Wé Ani any feedback after her performance of Skyfall by Adele.
“Wé, oh my god,” she said. “I’m just so shook right now.
“First of all, shook by the results, and I’m also shook by that song is so dramatic. (sic)
“There’s so much drama going through my body right now I need a nap. But the truth is, America, you guys have the votes.
“You’re the ones voting and if you’re not voting, you’re not using your voice. Your faves aren’t safe. So from now on, vote for who you want to see in the Top 12.”
Perry has been a judge on the show since season 16, and is also expected to return to the role for next year’s competition.
American Idol continues Sundays and Mondays on ABC in the US.
