Antiques Roadshow Natasha Raskin Sharp’s life – co-star hubby and dirty secret

Bargain Hunt fans fell in love with host Natasha Raskin Sharp when she first came on the scene – even before she landed a job on BBC show Antiques Roadshow.

Now the antiques expert is a staple of both shows, and is well used to being in the limelight.

But what about her life when the cameras aren’t rolling? Natasha is actually married to one of her BBC co-stars, and the pair regularly let fans in on their relationship with sweet updates.

She also has a very famous family, with several generations preceding her in the showbusiness industry.

Daily Star takes a peek behind the (antique) curtain.

Co-star husband

Natasha Raskin Sharp is married to Joe Sharp, a producer and director over at the BBC.

The pair met behind the scenes while working on various projects together, and eventually tied the knot in 2017 after four years of dating. They now live in Glasgow together.

Joe has produced everything from Antiques Road Trip to Channel 4’s Great Hotel Escape.

Though Natasha tends to keep her cards close to her chest when it comes to her married life, she has shared insights into their romance over the years, confessing they are both guilty of going out to eat too often.

She giggled: “My partner and I are guilty of eating out too much.

“Glasgow has so many great restaurants, too much of my spare time is spent eating delicious food and not enough time is spent working it off in the gym.”

She has also confirmed that Joe has green fingers, admitting he “takes care of the plants” in their shared home, which is filled with glorious greenery.

Famous family

Natasha is far from the only famous face in her household.

Her dad Philip Raskin is a renowned artist, and regularly auctions off his paintings for charitable causes, including to help Ukrainian refugees.

The Scottish artist is best known for his work with landscapes and seascapes, and is actually the reason Natasha first found her love of antiques.

She told the BBC: “I was gently nudged in the direction of the antique trade and auction houses by my dad, who thought that I'd be well-suited to the environment. Although I'd never normally admit it, he was absolutely right!"

The pair ran an art supply business together, though Philip also ran a successful restaurant for two decades alongside Natasha’s mum.

It doesn’t stop there. Her grandfather Max Raskin was actually a TV magician and had his very own show in the 60s called Magic with Max.

Natasha struggled to find any footage of her granddad at work, until a chance incident at an auction house.

She explained: “I was chatting to a guy who asked, ‘Raskin’s an unusual name – are you any relation to Max?’

“Turns out his first job was in TV archiving. In the 1960s he archived the show celebrating the fifth anniversary of STV. And my granddad was on it doing his trick!”

The star admitted: “My dad and his sister had been looking for it for 40 years, so when I gave it to them as a present it was very emotional.”

Career U-turn

Though her passion for antiques is obvious, Natasha hasn’t always been in the business.

She first started out looking to be a lawyer – a very different career path indeed.

Natasha studied law at the University of Leeds but quit her degree after just a month, before deciding to switch to the University of Glasgow to read History of Art.

She has even worked for Barack Obama during the 2008 election, with Obama hailing her part of the “Scottish contingent” of his team.

‘Dirty secret’

Starting out in her career, Natasha was hiding a “dark secret” from both her bosses and fans.

The star kept a rather embarrassing fact to herself until it was nearly too late, after going through a gruelling audition process and meeting the director.

But the star had “something important” she “needed to get off her chest” the whole time.

Truth is, Natasha couldn’t drive – something she would need for her new Antiques Roadshow stint.

She told The Sunday Post: “It was like a dirty secret. I thought, ‘I have to tell them’, so before the meeting started I said I had something to confess . . . and they all burst out laughing and said, ‘It’s OK everyone says they don’t watch the show!’

“So the moment passed and we moved on. But eventually I HAD to tell them. They couldn’t believe it. It had all been sweetness and light up till that point, but then it all got a bit grave.”

Natasha was told that if she could pass her driving test quickly, she could have the job. But it took three tries on an intensive course to get there.

“Now you can’t get me out of the driving seat,” she confessed.
