Bake Off finally hints at return in first teaser trailer – and we need it now

The Great British Bake Off has given fans its first taste of baking chaos by putting out a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it teaser trailer on Channel 4.

Last year’s series saw Italian Giuseppe Dell’Anno, in what was quite the year for the nation.

He beat off competition from Crystelle Perreira and Will Chirag (aka Chigs) in a nail-biting finale which left fans wanting more immediately after.

Now, they’ve got their fix guaranteed in the coming weeks, as the broadcaster dropped a hint as to when the show will make a long-awaited return for this year’s new series.

On Tuesday night, eagle-eyed fans caught a glimpse of the iconic Bake Off tent and theme tune moments before the start of the programme Night Coppers.

Those who managed to spot the teaser quickly reacted online, alerting the rest of social media to its imminent return.

One wrote on Twitter: ‘BAKE OFF ADVERTS ON CHANNEL 4,’ with another sharing: ‘AH BAKE OFF AD KLAXON.’

‘BAKE OFF NEWS INCOMING I need this #GBBO,’ someone else wrote.

A fan added: ‘Bake Off trailer!!’

However, there’s still no confirmed release date, as the trailer told fans the show would be: ‘Coming soon.’

Last year, the series began airing in the third week of September, so it’s likely the latest outing will run on a similar timescale.

We can’t wait.

Judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith will return alongside hosts Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas, with a brand-new crop of contestants.

The Channel 4 show has been keeping the nation’s spirits up in difficult times, as it was one of the few that managed to continue going fairly normally during Covid.

The cast and crew were sent off to Down Hall Hotel in Essex, where they were all required to stay within a Covid bubble, which meant staying in the location for the whole six weeks the show took place.

This year, the programme is set to ‘go back to normal’ meaning contestants, crew and the judges will be able to film at weekends and return home during the week.

Great British Bake Off returns later this year to Channel 4.
