Barbie Ferreira Opens Up About the Real Truth of Her Euphoria Exit

Prior to her departure in 2022, it was rumored that the actress, who played Kat Hernandez on the HBO series, had a heated argument with producer Sam Levinson on the set.

AceShowbizBarbie Ferreira revealed the real reason why she decided to depart from “Euphoria” following the hit show’s season 2. During her appearance on the “Armchair Expert” podcast, the actress claimed it was a “mutual decision” between her and producer Sam Levinson, with whom she was allegedly feuding.

During the interview, Barbie shared that she exited the Emmy-winning series as she felt like her character’s storyline had run its course. “I don’t think there was a place for her to go,” the 26-year-old, who played Kat Hernandez on the HBO series, explained. “I think there were places she could have gone. I just don’t think it would have fit into the show.”

Of her character, who is described as a plus-size high schooler who developed a cam-girl alter ego, Barbie continued, “I don’t know if it was going to do her justice, and I think both parties knew that. I really wanted to be able to not be the fat best friend. I don’t want to play that, and I think they didn’t want that either.”

Barbie also shared it was “a struggle” for her to try to balance the show with other projects especially when her character was given a little attention. “Sam writes for, like, things that he relates to. I don’t think he relates to Kat. I like Kat, so I get to go on my own path. At first, I was like, ‘Oh, my God, I’m a flop. I’m a loser.’ It really has been a good thing,” she divulged.

Barbie announced her departure ahead of “Euphoria” season 3 in August 2022. “After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary eyed goodbye,” she told fans at the time. “I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did, and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today.”

Prior to the shocking announcement, it was rumored that Barbie and Sam had a heated argument on the set that seemingly caused the screentime of Barbie’s character to get significantly reduced in the sophomore season of “Euphoria”. Barbie, however, denied the rumors as saying, “I really think that the fans are really passionate and I do appreciate that because ‘Euphoria’ has really impacted so many people.”

The “Unpregnant” star added, “Sometimes, things take on a life of their own, and they’re not rooted in the truth, but it’s okay because I know it’s just out of passion and out of curiosity and all that good stuff. And I signed up for it. So, I’ll take it. I’ll take the good and the bad.”

HBO additionally issued a statement to defend the show amid allegations that it has toxic work environment. “The well-being of cast and crew on our productions is always a top priority. The production was in full compliance with all safety guidelines and guild protocols. It’s not uncommon for drama series to have complex shoots, and COVID protocols add an additional layer. We maintain an open line of communication with all the guilds, including SAG-AFTRA. There were never any formal inquiries raised,” it read.
