BBC reporter grapples with protester live on air moments after Wagatha verdict

A protester interrupted a live BBC news report as he walked in front of the camera yelling "BBC fake news".

Journalist Colin Paterson was outside the High Court interviewing experts for the opinion after the judgement of the Wagatha Christie trial announced today (July 29).

Rebekah Vardy lost the Wagatha Christie court case as Coleen Rooney triumphed over her rival WAG following the distribution of private stories to The Sun – including fake posts set up by Rooney.

The journalist was talking to media lawyer Jonathan Coad about the verdict, then asked his colleague, Dominic Casciani of BBC's legal affairs correspondent about his instant reaction to the judgement of the libel case.

Footage seen on live broadcast shows Mr Casciani starts by saying: "Well I mean.

"This is massively damaging for Rebekah Vardy. As Jonathan was saying there, the…"

At the moment, a men in multi-coloured polo shirt walks from behind and stops right in front of the camera.

He dodges a security guard and yells: "BBC fake news!

"Stop immigration, stop refugees!"

He is grabbed by a suited man, who tries to tell him to leave the area, but he returns and shouts: "BBC is fake news!"

The journalist then replies: "I think we should probably just leave it for a minute, we can actually go into my report which sums up what we've learnt today."

The protester is then escorted away as the live broadcast cuts to show a pre-recorded report.

BBC News viewers blasted online about the coverage, with one saying: "BBC news is seriously running a live page on the Vardy v Rooney court case. Absolutely pathetic!"

A second noticed the protester and commented: "Straight on camera to get his view on camera whilst an interview takes place."

"I barely followed this but it was clear that she’d already lost in the court of public opinion," a third added.
