Ben makes an emotional promise to dying Lola in EastEnders

Things haven’t been particularly smooth sailing between Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) and Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold) in EastEnders recently, but they are set to make amends in upcoming episodes.

Things started to get rocky between them when dying Lola put forward the idea of Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) adopting Lexi (Isabella Brown), so that she would have a strong support network after Lola had passed away.

Ben took the news badly at first, but soon apologised when he realised that the couple weren’t trying to take his daughter away from him, but instead support him in the long run.

However, things took another turn when exhausted and overworked Ben forgot to pick up Lexi ahead of Kathy Beale’s (Gillian Taylforth) birthday party, leaving Lola furious.

With Lola having had to leave work due to her declining health, Ben was determined to pick up the slack, despite his own struggles.

Ben is currently battling bulimia, a condition which sees sufferers binge eat, before purging in order to stop themselves gaining weight.

As the pressures of Lola’s illness and the news that rapist Lewis has been arrested and charged again stack up, Ben struggles with his eating disorder alone and in secret.

In upcoming scenes, doting husband Callum Highway (Tony Clay) will persuade Ben to make amends with Lola, before it is too late.

As viewers will know, Lola is currently battling an incurable brain tumour, and, despite having undergone treatment to prolong her life, was recently given only six months left to live.

Determined to build bridges and take even more of the burden from Lola, Ben makes a promise to her that he will be there for Lexi no matter what.

Will he be able to keep his promise?
