Bernice makes a big decision on her future after diagnosis in Emmerdale

Sometimes a diagnosis can be a relief as it can explain symptoms, but for Emmerdale’s Bernice (Samantha Giles) it’s a curse. She’s going through the menopause, and this news has hit her hard.

She’s been struggling with mood swings and not feeling like herself, and in a moment of vulnerability allowed Bob in to her world of hot flushes and irritability.

He kindly pushed her towards a GP visit, which led to the dreaded words hitting her ears; she’s going through the menopause.

It’s bad enough for her to hear but even worse that the symptoms haven’t stopped.

She struggles with how rough the whole thing is making her feel, and though her irritability is making her push everyone away, she’s starting to feel a deep-seated loneliness.

Gabby (Rosie Bentham) and Rhona (Zoe Henry) are there to support her, but it’s not what she needs right now.

She needs distraction – if only she hadn’t been so hot-headed and hasty when she decided to quit her beloved job.

Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) and Bear (Joshua Richards) can see her dilemma and offer some sage words of advice to swallow her pride and ask Mandy (Lisa Riley) for her job back.

It’s something for her to mull over, but when Bernice later finds a joker card in the café, she sees it as a sign, instead of just a leftover from a bit of Poker that happened earlier in the day.

She sees it as having a hidden meaning, and it prompts her to make a big decision about her future. Is she leaving the village?
