Beyond Paradise, the six-part spin-off series to Death in Paradise, has introduced a host of new characters to the world of DI Humphrey Goodman (played by Kris Marshall). Felicity Montagu plays Office Support Margo Martins in the new series, based in the fictional town of Shipton Abbott and has opened up on what it was like to work with the cast.

After departing Death in Paradise, the new series picks up with DI Humphrey and his fiancée Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton), several years later as they move from London to the Devon Coast for a fresh start.

DI Humphrey joins a new police force and is introduced to an exciting new roster of coworkers, and the actors who play them.

Felicity, famous for her role as Lynn in Alan Partridge, joined the cast as Margo Martins, who was not a fan of Humphrey when he first arrived.

Her character was based solely at the police station to answer the phones and throw daggers at the officers, despite secretly enjoying the job.

Felicity revealed she really enjoys her character’s relationship with Kris and shared he is involved in some of her favourite scenes.

She revealed: “I love it when I’m in a spat with Kris Marshall’s character Humphrey.

“I find them just delicious. His expressions are so bewitching.”

In the early episodes Margo and Humphrey clashed over his working style as she has been at the station a long time and he doesn’t play by the rules.

It was also revealed that Margo has a dark past, has buried three husbands and has a strained relationship with her children, which added to her character’s hard demeanour.

While viewers will recognise Kris and Sally from the original series there are a host of new characters who have joined along with Felicity, and she had high praise for her fellow newcomers.

She said: “I love working with Zahra (Ahmadi – DS Esther Williams) and Dylan (Llewellyn – PC Kelby Hartford) in the police station too. – I’m really enjoying working with the team, I think they’re all incredible.”

Viewers may recognise Zahra from Eastenders where she played Shabnam Massod from 2007 to 2008.

Dylan may also be familiar having starred in several Channel 4 shows including: Jono in Hollyoaks, Jack in sitcom Big Boys and James Maguire in sitcom Derry Girls.

In the most recent episode DI Humphrey and his team were tasked with finding an art thief who had managed to steal an antique painting right under PC Kelby’s nose.

As the team began working on the puzzling case, they realised Humphrey had actually assisted the robber, loading the item into the suspects car by accident.

Luckily Kelby managed to catch the real thief when they made a run for it earning praise from Humphrey.

The end of the episode saw the return of a much beloved character from Death in Paradise as a duck appeared on Humphrey and Martha’s houseboat.

“Selwyn,” he grinned. “Selwyn’s back,” referring to commissioner Selwyn Patterson, who Humphrey admits he misses.

After last Friday’s episode, Beyond Paradise announced on Twitter that they will take a break from screens next week.

The tweet explained: “We won’t be here next week – it’s @comicrelief! – but don’t worry, #BeyondParadise will be back on BBC One on Friday 24th.”

But fans of the show are promised an exciting episode from the BBC synopsis, when it returns: “Humphrey investigates the death of an unidentified man found in the centre of a crop circle. Meanwhile, Archie helps Martha prepare for a visit from a food critic.”
