BGT judges throw Golden Buzzer rule out the window for inspirational dancer in show first

Britain’s Got Talent judges seem to be making their own rules this year, as in another show first, an eighth act was given the honour of being awarded the Golden Buzzer.

Usually just five acts are given the privilege of having the Golden Buzzer pressed for them, a privilege that means the performance was so good that they are automatically granted a place in the live semi-finals of the show, skipping the boot camp stage and giving them a head start in the competition.

However, the calibre of performers this year seem to have blown the judges away, as performer Musa Motha, 27, became the eighth contestant on the show to have the buzzer pressed for them.

Musa, who only has one leg, performed a contemporary dance routine to ‘Runnin’ (LoseIt All)’ by Naughty Boy ft. Beyoncé & Arrow Benjamin.

Although the judges are technically only supposed to get one Golden Buzzer act each, they decided that danced Musa was worth breaking the rules for, as they all stood up and pressed the buzzer together, making him the third act this series to be given a rule-breaking buzzer.

Hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly are also given the privilege of a buzzer, but two of the judges got a second buzzer this time around, with all four of them unanimously agreeing that Musa deserved the coveted spot.

Musa won over the judges with his contemporary dance routine, which he performed after sharing a heart-wrenching story about being diagnosed with cancer when he was younger, which led to him having his left leg amputated.

Despite missing the limb, Musa didn’t miss a beat of his performance, as he shared that he fell in love with music after his amputation, and a friend taught him to dance; a gift he wants to share with others to help inspire them through his performances.

After being granted the eighth Golden Buzzer, Musa became completely overwhelmed as he sunk to the floor of the stage, with the judges and hosts gathering around him to offer him their congratulations.

The other acts given the Golden Buzzer this series were Ghetto Kids, Malakai Bayoh, Chickenshed, a young girl called Olivia, Gamal John, and MB14, who received Ant and Dec’s Golden Buzzer.

Britain's Got Talent's live semi-finals begin on Monday at 8PM on ITV1 and ITVX.
