Celebrity MasterChef fans noticed chef John Torode had more than a little in common with everyone’s favourite sci-fi classic Star Trek.

Viewers flocked to Twitter to point out the 57-year-old looked as though he’d borrowed from the wardrobe of Captain Kirk on Thursday’s episode.

While deliberating which celebrity to send home out of Lesley Joseph, Richard Blackwood, Kirsty Gallacher and Jimmy Bullard, the TV personality sported a rather throwback get-up.

Wearing a mustard-hued T-shirt with buttons and a navy blue vest underneath, MasterChef lovers were quick to compare John’s outfit to Captain Kirk.

One wrote: ‘#MasterChef @JohnTorode1 channeling Captain Kirk tonight! #celebritymasterchef.’

‘Getting some serious #CaptainKirk vibes from #JohnTorode on #celebritymasterchef tonight,’ another agreed.

One fan simply remarked: ‘John?!!’ with a picture of the iconic character, who was originally played by William Shatner, below.

In the episode. the four stars were put through their paces and challenged with cooking an Indian classic by Darjeeling Express founder Asma Khan.

They also had to create the perfect crepes suzette – despite not having any recipe for the French dish – with all four of them rising to the challenge.

In the final task, Kirsty, 46, opted to whip up huevos rancheros, impressing both John and Gregg Wallace with her decision to cook the tortillas from scratch.

However, the two cooks ultimately decided to send her packing, after being won over by the others’ recipes.

Celebrity MasterChef continues on BBC One on Tuesday at 9PM.
