Chas in Emmerdale decides she actually loves Paddy but it could be too late

Regrets – Chas (Lucy Pargeter) has a few in Emmerdale at the moment and one of the biggest is that she ever let Al Chapman (Michael Wildman) distract her from the utter wonderfulness that is her husband Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt).

Chas started seeing Al as a way of distracting herself from the pain of knowing that her mum, Faith (Sally Dexter), was dying. At first the relationship was just about sex, with Chas setting ground rules to try to prohibit any emotional involvement.

As time went on, both Al and Chas started to fall in love with each other and by the time of Al’s death, Chas was ready to take her daughter Eve and leave Paddy for a new life with Al.

In coming episodes, as Chas finally starts to come to terms with Al’s death, she also starts to realise what she almost threw away. As she and Eve decorate the Christmas tree together, Chas is full of love for her family and this feeling is confirmed when she and Paddy go to a family dinner with Rhona (Zoe Henry) and Marlon (Mark Charnock).

Chas finally feels ready to put Al in the past, knowing that her future is with Paddy. When he surprises her with a gift, she’s grateful for his support and love – and utterly ashamed that she betrayed him.

But moving on may not be as easy as she hopes. When Chloe (Jessie Elland) mentions Al taking someone out for dinner on the night Faith died, Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) realises that Chas and Al’s affair was still continuing at that point, despite Chas’s previous reassurances.

And when Belle starts to question whether this was why Cain (Jeff Hordley) killed Al (as most people believe he did), it looks as though it’s only a matter of time before Chas’s secret is out and her world is blown apart.
