Cindy Beale’s connection to George explained as she returns to EastEnders

EastEnders: Kathy says she wants Ian Beale at the wedding

Cindy Beale (played by Michelle Collins) departed from the BBC soap back in 1998, but her recent return unveiled a close connection with newcomer George Knight (Colin Salmon)

After 25 years, the iconic character returned to EastEnders and was exposed as George’s ex-wife Rose Knight.

In recent scenes, Phil Mitchel (Steve McFadden) revealed to George that after doing some digging, the lady who he claimed was Rose Knight didn’t exist.

Shocked at the news, George pulled out his phone and dialled the number which he thought was his ex-wife Rose.

As the number continued to ring, the camera cut to a woman sitting on a sun lounger with her phone ringing.

Checking to see who it was, the name flashed up as George, but instead of answering the call she put the phone back down on the table.

A close-up of the woman was shown before she took off her sunglasses and was revealed to be Cindy Beale.

With the connection between the two characters being made, how is Cindy Beale connected to George Knight?

What happened to Cindy Beale?

Cindy left the show back in 1998 after it was claimed she had died in prison whilst giving birth to her daughter Cindy Beale Jr (Mimi Keene).

The iconic character was jailed after attempting to kill Ian back in October 1996 due to his wanting custody of their children.

Cindy was arrested for his attempted murder in 1997, with Ian later receiving the news that his wife had died.

Since then, Cindy has not appeared in the BBC soap and was presumed dead by all residents of Walford, however, her body was never seen.

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other press and opening up on being back after 25 years, Michelle explained: “We filmed everything on location about six weeks ago.

“I am actually now filming back in the square and that felt very different, now I feel in there and it’s surreal.

“Surreal, nerve-wracking but it is also very exciting! I didn’t think they could ever do it so when it came it, I think it was about timing.

“If it happened five years ago I would have said no, but it is all about timing.”
