Coleen Nolan reacts to news of Sinéad O'Connor's death

Loose Women’s Coleen Nolan questioned where the support was for singer Sinead O’Connor during her life.

Her comments come after the ITV show paid tribute to the star whose family announced had died at the age of 56.

Speaking about her death, the presenter hailed her as a national treasure in Ireland before admitting she didn’t know about her tragic past before her death.

She said: “I read about her childhood, it was very very traumatic

“But, the thing that saddens me the most when I see this, it was quite obvious through the years to me that Sinead was suffering from mental health.”

Coleen highlighted that when someone in the public eye dies, floods of tributes and obituaries start to come out.

Stating she never knew the singer personally, the Loose Woman star added: “I always think, where were all these people when they saw the trauma she must’ve been going through?

“Obviously not her family, but friends that have come out and said, ‘We were really close friends.’”

The 58-year-old continued saying that over the years, terrible things were written about Sinead about her looks and certain things she said.

Coleen added: “It takes someone to die for people to come out and be nice.

“It really upsets me more than anything, we should’ve always been nice.”

It seemed as though the live audience agreed with Coleen as they erupted into a loud round of applause after she’d finished speaking.

Elsewhere in the discussion, the ITV star praised activist Sinead for being vocal on certain issues throughout the years.

She said: “She was around at a time when people were afraid to speak out about things that were going on and she was never afraid to speak out.”

The 56-year-old Nothing Compares singer’s family released a statement on Wednesday evening confirming her death.

They said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinead. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”

No cause of death for the hitmaker has been given as of yet.
