Coronation Street actor Ryan Prescott breaks silence on acid-attack scenes after soap is slammed by fans | The Sun

CORONATION Street actor Ryan Prescott has spoken out about the horrifying acid-attack scenes which aired last night.

The soap was slammed by fans for "going too far" as they showed Daisy Midgeley’s stalker Justin throw acid at her – but ended up dousing Ryan Connor instead.

The disturbing moment upset some fans, while others praised the harsh reality of the storyline.

Speaking on This Morning today, Ryan said Coronation Street would be focussing on Ryan's recovery long into the future.

"That's one thing we wanted to include was to have some longevity within the parameters of soap, which obviously moves very quickly," he said.

"We wanted to have some kind of longevity in the aftermath.

"This issue is way more prevalent than you'd imagine.

"Thanks again to Coronation Street for giving it the sensitivity and respect it demands."

His co-star Charlotte Jordan said: "Feel quite overwhelmed with all the messages about last night's Corrie.

"So many people to thank for delivering episodes on such a sensitive and unfortunately, prevalent subject matter.

"It’s a real team effort but wanted to say thank you for watching, even when it’s hard. Xx."

As she stepped out ready to go to the wedding venue, Ryan told the one remaining drinker that it was time to go.

Charlotte's character Daisy walked out from the wedding venue when she heard Justin (played by former Hollyoaks star Andrew Still) behind her, saying: “Look at you.

“You think everyone wants you because you’re so perfect, don’t you? No-one’s going to want you after this.”

With that he threw a glass of liquid at Daisy by Ryan dived in the way not realising what it was.

He fell to the floor screaming in agony as some of the acid began burning on his face and on Daisy’s skin.

She crawled over to Ryan who was rolling around the floor in agony and grabbed her phone to call an ambulance.

Daisy dragged him into the back and into the bathroom and put him in the shower, holding the constant flow of water over his wounds.

She ran into the kitchen and grabbed scissors to cut away Ryan’s melting shirt but his howls of pain and anguish were too much for viewers.

One wrote: "Can’t believe Coronation Street would air something like that! Shocking!"
