Coronation Street fans have demanded a major format change for the beloved soap after watching Gemma Winter’s emotional wedding to Chesney Brown.

The beloved soap normally streams on ITV1 for an hour between 8pm and 9pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

But this week the long-running programme, and its rival soap Emmerdale, will move times to make way for the Britain’s Got Talent live semi-finals.

Emmerdale will hit the airwaves between 7pm and 7.30pm every evening, whilst Coronation Street will be altered from four hour-long episodes to five half-hour long episodes which will air from 7.30pm to 8pm each evening.

On Monday (May 29), fans tuned in to the primetime show to watch fan-favourite Gemma tie the knot to her childhood sweetheart.

The stunning red-head opted to go against the traditional white wedding dress, instead opting for a bright orange gown that was two-meters wide and featured a dramatic seven-meter train.

But that wasn't all, her dress also featured several LED lights which had been woven into the dress and the veil.

It's fair to say the bride made sure all eyes were on her as she walked down the aisle with her twin brother Paul.

And it appears as though viewers have been liking the change of pace, after watching the dramatic scenes unfold.

Taking to Twitter, one user wrote: “I love the 30 minute episodes this week, they flow a lot nicer and are much easier to sit through without feeling there is a load of filler scenes for time.”

Another agreed: “Can we have half-hour episodes all of the time? So much easier to get through #Corrie.”

A third echoed: “I prefer these 30m episodes. Pits it can’t go 5x per week Mon – Fri and hour specials at Christmas & Bank Holidays only #Corrie.”
