Coronation Street fans work out how Stephen will be caught after blood clue

Coronation Street: Iain MacLeod on Stephen 'meeting his fate'

Since his return to Weatherfield last year, Coronation Street fans have seen Stephen Reid (played by Todd Boyce) cause havoc.

Not only has he killed three people to prevent his secrets being exposed, he drugged Carla Connor (Alison King) to oust her from the factory and set his sights on Elaine Jones (Paula Wilcox) to get her money.

After manipulating Elaine to fall in love with him, fans of the ITV soap have seen him start plotting her death.

Recently, he took out a life insurance policy once he learnt she had a heart condition that killed her mum and has upped the antics after she infuriated him this week.

Trying to persuade her to buy Carla’s share of the factory, after she revealed she’s stepping down, Elaine put her foot down and refused to spend her money on something that didn’t involve her.

Seething at being told no, Stephen started to replace her blood pressure medication with caffeine pills.

In upcoming scenes, Elaine grows more and more unwell as she’s unaware at her partners betrayal.

Admitting she’s not feeling good, Stephen fakes being concerned and goes to get some food, leaving her alone.

While he’s out she gets extremely dizzy and takes a fall, hitting her head and laying unconscious on the floor.

When Stephen returns and discovers her body, not knowing whether she’s alive or dead, he backs out of the room leaving her.

Although some believe the killer has claimed his next victim, many viewers believe Elaine could be his downfall as tests on her blood will be carried out, revealing her medication being swapped

On Reddit, Ginaraquel47 commented: “I don’t think she’ll die but this will be the beginning of his downfall. Like Elaine ends up having bloodwork and it shows some abnormality than casts suspicion on Stephen.

“Why this didn’t happen with Carla and the LSD is another story but hey. I know this storyline is insane but I still love it.”

Icy-Translator9124 added: “I agree that Elaine won’t likely die, but Elaine isn’t going to take being left for dead, quietly. Her squawking is going to be very awkward for the Bin Baron. He’s going to have some ‘splainin’ to do.”

Cheshirechris71 said: “ Elaine is so obviously being lined up for us to believe Stephen will kill her when Owen is the obvious choice, can you really see Carla relinquishing the factory? But plot wise for Stephen, it will work.“Going back to the Richard Hillman era, Emily was the one he had lined up but the big shock was that it was Maxine and no-one saw it coming, I suspect Stephen will get one of those sorts of murders in before he finishes with a more high profile cast member being bumped off.”

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV from 8pm.
