Coronation Street Glenda star admits she was left sobbing on first day on soap
Coronation Street star Jodie Prenger has revealed that her first day on set as Glenda Shuttleworth left her "sobbing".
The actress, who joined the ITV soap in March, spoke to The Daily Star about her experience on the show and recalled her very first day on set in August last year.
"I remember I was stood in the corner of the Rovers on my first say sobbing and someone from the crew came over and I was like, 'I'm totally fine.'
"It is a constitution and I think the first person I spoke to was Gary from security and I was like 'How long have you been here?' and he was like '40 years Jodie.'"
She added that the cast and crew "are a family", saying: "I think it comes across on screen."
Jodie made her debut as Glenda earlier this year, playing the former cruise ship performer who went on to land a job in the Rovers Return.
She is currently settled behind the bar of the iconic Rovers alongside landlady Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews), who took over from Peter Barlow and Toyah Battersby in 2018 alongside her then-husband Johnny.
The character turned up in Weatherfield to reunite with her brother George (Tony Maudsley) and went on to reunite with her old friend Estelle Harrington (Ruthie Henshall), buying children's stage school Little Big Shotz from her.
The 45-year-old revealed that she loves having scenes with Tony, adding: "We have so much fun off-screen as well and its kind of lucky working in the Rovers because you get to interact with so many of the characters."
Jodie rose to fame after winning series two of The Biggest Loser in 2006, becoming the first female in the world to win the show, slimming down from a size 22 to a size 14 and winning a prize of £25,000 for losing the most weight.
She then competed on I'd Do Anything in 2008, winning the chance to play Nancy in a West End revival of Oliver!, and subsequently performed in Spamalot, One Man, Two Guvnors, Calamity Jane, Annie, Abigail's Party and Robin Hood.
Aside from Corrie, Jodie has taken on roles in Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators, Years and Years, Casualty and The Walk-In, and has appeared on The Chase: Celebrity Special, Pointless Celebrities, Sports Relief's Top Dog and Celebrity Bargain Hunt.
