Last month viewers of the ITV soap watched in horror as Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) threw Leo Thompkins (Joe Frost) over the edge of a two-story building to his death after threatening to expose his lies. With Stephen disposing of the body afterwards, the residents of Weatherfield are left believing he’s simply skipped town. Knowing that there’s no one to expose the truth behind him wanting Audrey’s money, the Canadian businessman puts his final plot to con his mother Audrey into motion.

The Coronation Street resident became the latest villain of the ITV soap after he killed Leo for threatening to expose him to the family.

It comes after he overheard a conversation between Stephen and his estranged ex-partner Gabrielle on how he planned to pay her back after he had previously stolen from her.

Leo learned that he was persuading his mum, Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls), to try and sell her house so that he could then steal the equity to pay Gabrielle back.

Although when he confronted him and explained he’d tell the family and then the police his plan, Stephen saw red and pushed him over the two-story building to his death below.

With the conman disposing of the body, it’s left the residents of Coronation Street to believe he’s run away to Canada alone, however, in scenes set to air next week his crime could be about to get exposed.

Growing concerned they haven’t heard from him, Leo’s dad Teddy Thompkins (Grant Burgin) and his partner Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) decide to meet up at the Bistro to discuss finding him.

Worried they’ll uncover the truth, Stephen takes a photo of them together on Leo’s phone, which he took after the murder and sends it to Teddy.

Saying the image of them both was sent to him by a friend, Stephen impersonates the deceased and writes for them not to contact him again.

Although Teddy is not convinced as he reveals that he’s off to Canada to speak to his son face-to-face, much to Stephen’s horror.

Later on, his ex-wife Gabrielle corners Stephen and demands that he gives her the money she’s owed as she’s running out of patience.

The conman can’t believe his luck when his mother gives him her phone asking for the notifications to be turned off as it’s driving her mad.

Meeting up with Gabrielle, he hatches a plan to get her the money back as he explains that he’s waiting for the mortgage broker to call Audrey’s phone and that she can pretend to be her.

Knowing that there’s a high chance he’ll get equity release money, he tries to plan his exit as he tells Gail it may be time for him to leave now Audrey is feeling better.

However, his mother throws a spanner in the works when she announces that she and Sam could stay at one of his properties in Canada to see the Northern Lights.

Thrown in a panic, Stephen tries to halt their plans for a trip as he tries to convince Gail that Audrey shouldn’t go to Canada as the weather will be too harsh.

Instead, he suggests that she go on a cruise in Norway instead and even goes as far as offering to book the whole thing to ensure nothing disrupts his plans.

A theory by Express.co.uk suggests that to confirm the sale of the house, the mortgage broker sends a letter to Audrey’s home which is opened by Gail.

Shocked that the contents confirm it has all been approved, she goes on to question Audrey about why she didn’t speak to her about this before finalising it.

However, adamant she hasn’t spoken to any mortgage broker, it becomes clear that someone isn’t telling the truth.

With Stephen planning his swift exit, will he get caught out by his family before he flees with his mother’s money?
