Coronation Street's Craig Tinker set for huge betrayal amid Faye exit | The Sun

CRAIG Tinker believes he's found the love of his life in the form of Faye Windass and popped the question.

But heartbreak is rife in Coronation Street and the copper played by Colson Smith won't be spared.

The fan favourite character went all out to become engaged to Faye Windass.

And with a little help from fellow Weatherfield residents (including Glenda Shuttleworth who used her singing talents), Craig secured himself a bride in recent scenes of the ITV soap.

Letting go of their past disagreements over children and a family of their own, Craig is head over heels for Faye – unaware that her heart isn't really in it.

"How could you say 'no'?", questioned actress Ellie Leach during a recent chat with The Sun and other press.

The departing star will be bowing out of the Manchester-based drama after twelve years and teased an explosive last storyline which will involve smashing Craig's heart into pieces.

This is notably due to her conflicting feelings for former flame Jackson Hodge who made it clear he's willing to build a life with her and their daughter Miley down south.

"It's hard for her because she has a lot of love for Craig but she's not in love with with anymore", Ellie Leach explained.

Adding insult to injury, Faye kissed her old school sweetheart just before saying "yes" to Craig.

"The kiss with Jackson happened just before the proposal so she just got a lot of feelings running around in her head."

"And also, the fact her family was there, his family was there. It's a very very dauting thing. Yes, she loves him but she's not in love with him. She said yes because she's following her head over her heart."

But does Faye really harbour romantic feelings for Jackson? Ellie Leach doesn't rule it out.

However, according to her, Craig and Jackson's battle over her is nothing compared to Faye's own inner turmoil as she tries to figure out if she can allow herself to leave the cobbles to be with her daughter Miley.

"I think she knows in her heart what her feelings towards Jackson are and I think a massive part of it is because of Miley."

"But I think in her head, it's like 'I can't just leave the life I have behind on the Street just to go with someone. Yes, I love my child but, right now it might be perfect but what if it's just all too much?'"

Push will eventually come to shove but Faye won't find any support in Craig – the copper will revisit Ted Spear's death as a way to blackmail her into staying with him.

Terrified of going back to prison and losing Miley forever, Faye will stay put but Ellie has made it clear the love she once had for Craig could turn into resentment.

"It turns into a bit of resentment towards Craig because she thinks 'this is the life I could have with my child that I love very much but you're taking that away from me.'"

"She desperately wants to have a relationship with Miley and I think that's the overriding feeling right now."

Tough scenes are ahead for soap viewers but, thankfully, Ellie Leach and co-star Colson Smith have been able to take a step back from all the drama while filming.

"Colson is my best mate", Ellie admitted, "we literally have a laugh no matter what scene it is. We're always used to having a laugh. I think we've been working together for so many years now that we just know each other."

"He can be horrible but as soon as it's cut, he changes back to the conversation again. It's also good because we're so close as friends, we can do those hard-hitting scenes and still be normal with each other afterwards. We have that sort of trust."
