Corrie boss on psychological trauma for influencer Daisy as she faces danger
One of the main things we love about Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) and Daniel Osbourne’s (Rob Mallard) relationship in Coronation Street is the sheer contrast between the two characters.
Essentially, Daniel is like a young Ken Barlow (William Roache). He loves sitting down with a good book and has a passion for writing – which juxtaposes with Daisy completely.
Daisy is a young woman who’s created a colourful and creative social media platform. She’s seen as an influencer and often attends posh events so she can develop her brand on the likes of Instagram and TikTok (probably).
The world of social media will have a huge impact on this couple in 2023, as Daisy learns more about the darker side to having quite a few online followers – some of which may end up developing unhealthy thoughts about her.
‘The storyline is about a young woman on the internet and the dangers that face influencers’, Corrie boss Iain MacLeod recently told us.
‘It’s high profile but in her case, with quite a small-fry online following and it brings her into a certain degree of danger as the wedding approaches. Mini-Ken Barlow wants a serious and cultured wedding, but Daisy wants everything to be a bit extra. There’s fun to be had there but in the background, a creeping danger arises from her online life’.
‘It takes a while for them to realise the dangers that are brewing’, Iain added.
‘We’re into an interesting, current, socially important story with a far-reaching psychological impact running across the whole of 2023.
‘It threatens their relationship, leads to Daisy’s faith in Daniel being shaken and maybe, just maybe, she may have her head turned’.
