Corrie Dennis Stringer star unrecognisable and has new job 20 years after exit

Ex-Coronation Street actor Charles Dale looks worlds away from his character Dennis Stringer 20 years after his emotional soap exit.

The 59-year-old joined the ITV soap in 2000 and played the role of Dennis for two years before the character was sadly killed off following a dramatic car accident.

He was involved in plenty of storylines during his years on the cobbles, most notably falling for and having an affair with married Janice Battersby while in a relationship with Eileen Grimshaw.

After realising his wife was leaving him, Janice's husband Les Battersby tried to take his own life by driving his taxi to a wasteland and trying to gas himself inside.

Dennis discovered Les unconscious and was on his way to Weatherfield General when they were involved in a car accident.

Les came out unharmed but Dennis sadly died in hospital after he and Janice declared their love for each other.

20 years later, the Welsh star looks completely different and has even swapped acting for a seat on his local council – however he confirmed he has not retired.

Earlier this year, he penned on Twitter: "Long story short, I am standing for election for my local council.

"Today a staff member from my local paper came into my shop (another long story, and no, I haven’t retired) and asked me if I wanted to pay £50 to have my name and contact details put in the paper alongside the other candidates."

He added: "I said 'no thank you', now I don’t know about what you, but I think that’s something a local paper should perhaps “report on” rather than charge for."

The actor is also known for his portrayal of MacKenzie "Big Mac" Chalker in BBC series Casualty and has also nabbed roles in TV series including The Bill, Holby City as well as ITV's The Pembrokeshire Murders and Unforgotten.

On top of acting and politics, Charles also helps run his family-owned record shop in the Welsh seaside town of Tenby.

Alongside his sister Linzi, he continues to run Dale's Music which has been with his family since 1947.
