Corrie Glenda star Jodie Prenger left ‘sobbing’ on first day at ITV soap set

Coronation Street star Jodie Prenger has opened up about her first day on set.

The 45-year-old actress made her debut as former cruise performer Glenda Shuttleworth in August last year.

Since arriving in Weatherfield, she's landed herself a job in the Rovers Return and has been reunited with her old pal Estelle (Ruthie Henshall).

Recalling her first day at Corrie, Jodie told Daily Star: "I remember I was stood in the corner of the Rovers on my first say sobbing and someone from the crew came over and I was like 'I'm totally fine'.

"It is a constitution and I think the first person I spoke to was from Gary from security and I was like 'How long have you been here?' and he was like '40 years Jodie'.

"They are a family and I think it comes across on screen."

While Glenda has been busying pulling pints as the Rovers' newest barmaid, the soap star has teased what she'd like next for her character.

"I mean Pedro Pascal coming in as Glenda's new love interest," Jodie joked.

She continued: "I love having scenes with Tony Maudsley [who plays Glenda's brother George Shuttleworth] and those at Number 11.

"We have so much fun off-screen as well and its kind of lucky working in the Rovers because you get to interact with so many of the characters."

Away from the cobbles, Jodie is supporting Alzheimer’s Society’s Forget Me Not Appeal to show people affected by dementia that they are not alone.

Her mum, Madeline Pregner, has run a care home in Blackpool for over 30 years and Jodie's life has been spent surrounded by the wonderful people in the care home, growing incredibly close to them and their families.

The soap star has supported Alzheimer’s Society for over three years and says it's an "honour" to be part of the campaign.

"It's a brilliant appeal to just remind everyone that those people are still there.

"I see it day in, day out. My mum and all the staff deal with it and the families deal with it and I'm very honoured to be part of this."

During her days off from filming, Jodie heads to The Golden Years home in Blackpool to visit her mum, staff and the residents.

Alzheimer's Society's Forget Me Not Appeal campaign is running throughout May and the general public are being encouraged to get involved by wearing the Forget Me Not badge, showing people affected by dementia that we understand and stand with them.
