Dan Walker's new show bombarded with complaints after insensitive blunder about late Tom Parker | The Sun

DAN Walker's new show has received backlash after it aired a mistake about the late Tom Parker's name.

Dancing on Ice star, Siva Kaneswaran, 34 spoke to the former BBC Breakfast host about his homage to his bandmate, Tom Parker, who passed away last March as a result of a brain tumour.


Siva who was holding back his emotions shared: "I'm getting emotional ten seconds into the interview."

He continued by saying that he wanted to give Tom a stunning performance and leave his wife and kids with a priceless memory.

Siva went on to describe how he was "gasping" and "thinking" of Tom during the performance.

"If you look at the opening scene, when his voice started [in the song Siva skated to], I'm literally gasping, thinking 'Tom, get me through this," he told Dan.

The Wanted singer then admitted that him and Tom's family and friends are still grieving as he said "it hasn't even been a year".

He continued: "It's just to keep communicating for everyone who loved him."

However throughout the heartfelt segment, Tom's name was spelled wrongly, which set off a storm of outrage among viewers.

Those at home watching all took to Twitter to air their frustration at the production error.

One wrote: I can't quite believe they spelt Tom Parker's name wrong during the interview!

Another added: "To see Tom Walker instead of Tom Parker during your interview with Siva Kaneswaran. How could someone get that so wrong?"

A third complained: "5 news if you are going to report on someone as amazing as Tom Parker, please get his name correct!"

A fourth wrote: "Wow I'm so shocked that 5 news couldn't spell Tom Parker's name right, WTF?!"

"Well that's insensitive isn't it?," another fumed.

Even with the gaffe, Siva's interview was a heartfelt tribute to Tom, and many fans applauded his speech.

One wrote: "What a lovely interview Siva! Thank you for your kind words x."

Another penned: "Siva you are so kind. Your words brought a tear to my eye. Rest in Peace Tom xx"

Due to a brain tumour, Tom passed away in March. In October 2020, he received a diagnosis of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), an aggressive and fatal type of the disease, and he fell suddenly at the age of 33.
